Newly formed Communist Party of Nepal -Maoist chairman Mohan Baidya  said his party was going to present a 70-point demand before launching a peaceful protest movement. He said the party would take up arms if the demands were not addressed.

Speaking at a press conference organised to announce the decisions of the party's central committee meeting, Baidya said that the list of demands to be presented to the government are related to nationality issues and the daily lives of the people in general. The demands will be presented within five days.

The 70-point demand will also include the 40 demands the then Maoist party had presented to the government before launching the armed insurrection in 1996.

Meanwhile, the new Maoist party has decided to organise protest rallies in six places (Kathmandu, Pokhara, Janakpur, Surkhet, Butwal, Kanchanpur) starting from August 26.

According to Baidya, the protests will be carried out peacefully but the party will not shy away from resorting to armed revolt if the demands are not addressed.

He said the party would organise roundtable conference by involving all the political parties and other stakeholders aiming to forge consensus on a constitution that would, in essence, oppose feudalism and foreign dominance.
