Drones buzz in Bihar to track Maoists
PATNA: Drones are flying in Bihar to help combat Maoists. Security forces in Bihar’s worst Maoist-hit districts are using the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to ensure the safety and security of their men in field operations, police officials said. “The induction of UAVs will keep an eye on Maoist movements in Maoist strongholds in north Bihar plains and forest areas in southern Bihar. It will minimise the chances of casualties of security personnel engaged in anti-Maoists operations,” said a senior police official. By using the global positioning system (GPS), UAVs feed real time location and movement of Maoists and help plan counter strategies. ”
After UAVs were deployed in Maiosts affected areas, security forces with the help of devices are able to pick up ground conversation and movement,” the police official said. According to officials, UAVs flash real time imagery of Maoist movements and conversations and the data is immediately passed on to commandos. With the help of UAVs, security forces would also detect IEDs that cause maximum casualties among security personnel.
It is the first time that security forces are using UAVs in Bihar in anti-Maoist operations. But UAVs have been in use Chhattishgarh and Jharkhand. Amit Kumar, inspector general, police operation, said that in 2013 in different Maoists attacks a total of 25 security personnel were killed and three dozen arms were also looted from police personnel.

Red tape blocks crucial telecom project in Red Corridor
New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) Despite security agencies having expressed serious concern over the lack of connectivity in Naxal-affected areas, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has delayed a crucial communication project that the government had decided to set up to counter the problem. After a delay of nearly four years, the proposal for the setting up of over 2,200 telecom towers in nine Naxal-affected states, forming what is described as the ‘Red Corridor’, received a Cabinet nod on June 4 last.

Finger of Suspicion Points to TNLA
Two pipe-bombs, one near a supermarket in Madurai and another outside the residence of Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanasamy at Puducherry — both defused before they could explode — have given rise to suspicion about the regrouping of the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA) in the State. The bomb found in Madurai was sent for forensic tests by the State Police, who received reports suggesting that it was similar to the one that was planted outside Narayanasamy’s residence in Puducherry.
However, an analysis of pamphlets, suspected to have been left behind by alleged Naxal cadre to divert the attention of the probe agencies, near the Madurai supermarket, has found accusations against the Central government for bringing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-retail sector and uses the term ‘Indian Imperialism’, which was commonly used by Naxalites in the Andhra-Odisha-border and elsewhere. The pamphlets also identified the alleged members in the same vein as rebels in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir. “It is quite unusual for the TNLA to leave such a lengthy document in the form of a pamphlet. It looks like a media release,” said a senior police officer.
