Maoist calls Political Strike in Manipur
Imphal, April 1: Terming the ensuing Lok Sabha election which will held from the 4th till the 8th of April as an attempt to divert the attention being raised by the continuing armed struggle for independence, and to portray a false picture to the rest of the world, Maoist Communist Party, Manipur today declared the imposition of “Political Strike” as part of the boycott of the 16th Lok Sabha election. During the political strike, all Government office, commercial vehicles including tata trucks- buses, sumo and winger services ferrying passengers and oil tankers as well as all election related Campaigns, publicity drives and meetings will be banned, while Tata Magic, Auto Service, Rickshaw Service, Business Market, educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, water and electricity departments as well as religious ceremonies and processions will be relaxed.
A press release reiterates the stand of the party of causing disruptions to the election process while causing minimal disturbance to pubic life, which is reflected in the decision to ban all vehicles which will otherwise be used by the Government to transport polling personnel, materials and booths to different places. The release further appealed for support of the public in making the boycott successful.
