Roopesh refuses to co-operate with police questioning
Coimbatore: Maoist leader Roopesh and four others, who were arrested in Coimbatore on Monday, are likely to be questioned by Kerala police today. Top Maoist leader Roopesh, wanted in at least 20 cases in Kerala, wife Shina and three others, were arrested on Monday near Coimbatore in a “big breakthrough” for the police of four southern states. The Coimbatore police are questioning the group of Maoists and by afternoon they will be presented in the Coimbatore court.
However, Roopesh was not co-operating with the police and shot back questions at the officials instead, as per the sources. It is reported that the Maoist leader threw away his SIM cards and diary while entering the police Jeep. It was the locals who saw the evidence gave it to the police. The police are checking the contents of the diary and tracing the numbers from the SIM cards. The arrested persons include Roopesh’s wife… Besides the couple, others arrested were Anup from Kerala, Veeramani from Karnataka and Kannan from Tamil Nadu, the sources said, adding, all would be taken to Kerala for further questioning on the way to Andhra Pradesh. Big breakthrough Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Monday night that the arrest of Roopesh and the others were made by Andhra police following a joint operation undertaken by Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police.
He said this was a “big breakthrough” and could be achieved due to ‘co-ordinated’ efforts of the four state governments. “At least five Maoists have been arrested. For the past two months, police of Andhra, Karnataka Kerala and Tamil Nadu were undertaking joint operations to nab them,” he said. “The Maoists are being questioned. Roopesh will be brought to Kerala,” he added.

Proud of my parents: Roopesh’s daughter
Thrissur: Arrested Maoist leader Roopesh’s daughter Aami insisted that the case registered against her parents was based on fake charges. Aami, the eldest daughter of Maoist leaders Roopesh and Shyna who were arrested in Coimbatore on Monday, said that she was proud of her parents who work for the welfare of society. She told reporters on Tuesday that her parents have neither attacked the poor nor stolen anything. She said she also believes that her parents didn’t have any role in the recent attacks as portrayed by the police. Aami and her sister Savera are not sad about being away from their parents as they believe that what their parents are doing is right.
