Women issues form integral part of Naxals’ ‘leadership training programme-2014’
GADCHIROLI: A document retrieved during police operation in the Gadchiroli-Gondia belt reflected the gravity with which Naxals aims to deal with women issues and rope in more of them into their fold. The document, which is a handwritten ‘Leadership training programme-2014, contained a whole set of discussions on women issues revolving around their rights, position and status in the Indian society with sociopolitical developments from time immemorial.
The section dedicated to women is titled as ‘Mahila sawal par hamara dristhikon’ (our viewpoints on women issues). The content of the training module pertaining to women were mostly provocative and inflammatory in nature penned with an intention to evoke a deep hatred against the system motivating them to join armed struggle, said an official of anti-naxal operation. The Naxals targeted a Hindu radical organization in the module to state that it is behind exploitation of women from minority and backward community. The rebels also lambast media for its portrayal of woman as an object of desire and in derogatory manner. The Naxals, urging its future leaders to become sensitized with women issues, have directed in its leadership manual to ensure that maximum numbers of disgruntled faction of the fairer sex are handed over the baton of revolution in its support zones.
The women specific section of manual portrays the social exploitation of women in the sectarian society in the patriarchal society from past till now. The rebels also mentioned in the training module how cadres should be trained to corner government for spurt in prostitution and also for systematically compelling the widows to take up flesh trade much to the convenience of the society. A senior officer, attached to anti-Naxal operation, said the manual’s content regarding women were also created in such a fashion so as to bring in ‘hate’ feelings towards the male as a perpetual body for exploitation and suppression of the women in a gender biased society.
The leadership training manual, in other sections, also had diagrammatic representations in local language like Gondi and Madia of how to set up improvised explosive devises (IED) with simple wirings and battery set-up. It also had representations of wireless set up and means of communication with coded language and terms and terminologies. The leaders have been also instructed to spread the movement in plain areas which are inhabited by backward sections of the society, rural suburbs and places affected by agrarian issues and displacements.
