Police arrested two alleged outlaws from Pirahati village in Santhia upazila of the district early yesterday. They also seized a revolver, eight bullets, a magazine and a machete from their possession. The arrestees are Munaf Ali, 45, son of Abdul Jabbar of Laxmipur village, and Hanif Mollah, 35, son of Nawjesh Mollah of Chachkia village in Atghoria upazila.
They are the operatives of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Lal Pataka) faction. Officer-in-Charge of Santhia Police Station Nasir Uddin said informed that a group of operatives were making preparation to commit crime at Pirahati in the upazila a police team raided the area and arrested the two with the firearm and bullets. However, their cohorts managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, said the OC.
Three cadres of PBCP were executed at Jessore Central Jail for killing JSD leader Kazi Aref Ahmed and four other JSD activists in Daulatpur sub-District of Kushtia District on February 16, 1999.
Abdus Samad (45), a cadre of PBSP was hacked to death at Nengri in Pabna District. Police said that members of the PBSP might have killed him over previous enmity as he left the party.
Police recovered the beheaded body of Anwar Hossain (40), a ‘regional commander’ of PBCP at Kismat-Ghoragachha village under Harinakundo upazila in Jhenidah District.
Police arrested four cadres of BCP while they were holding a secret meeting at Patra village in Rajbari District. The arrestees are Jagadish (30), Shyamal Kumar (35), Shorojit Paul (20) and Zohurul Islam (20).
Police arrested Ketai (29), a cadre of Bipul Bahini from Bohuladanga village of Rajbari District. Police recovered one shooter gun and two bullets from him.
RAB arrested Badsha Mallik (45), a ‘regional leader’ of BCP from his house at Byashpur village in Jhenidah District. RAB recovered one SMG, a double barrel shotgun, 105 bullets and a magazine.
Three cadres of PBCP-Red Flag were arrested in Dhulauri area of Pabna District. Police recovered a pipe gun and nine bullets from their possession.
Two cadres of PBCP were killed in a gunfight with RAB at Jugni Hatkhola area of Tangail District. One revolver, a foreign pistol, a magazine and seven bullets were recovered from the spot.
