India - Delhi: Dharna by Chhattisgarh journalists against arrests,

Journalists from Chhattisgarh under the banner of Patrakaar Suraksha Kanoon Sanyukt Sangarsh Samiti are organising a dharna on 10th of May 2016, 10:00 AM at Jantar Mantar with the following demands:
1. Release all the arrested journalists from Bastar region immediately.
2. Enact Patrakar Suraksha Kanoon with immediate effect.
Patrakaar Suraksha Kanoon Sanyukt Sangarsh Samiti was formed by journalists from Chhattisgarh after the arrest of two local reporters Santosh Yadav and Somaru Naag in fabricated cases the previous year. The Sangarsh Samiti have been carrying out unprecedented protests in various parts of Chhattisgarh and equally condemning the attack on journalists by police and the Maoists. One of their primary demands is to enact a law that protects Journalists working in Chhattisgarh. But even after various agitations, recently two more journalists, Prabhat Singh and Deepak Jaiswal were arrested and Journalist Malini Subramanian was hounded out of Bastar. The state government after all its assurances has not taken any steps to fulfill any of their demands. The 4 arrested journalists continue to languish in jail on frivolous charges.
At such a juncture, there is a need for a collective voice around the country to ensure an environment where journalist can report freely and objectively without any fear, especially in a region like Bastar where local journalists are often forced to side with either the state or Maoists.
