India - Bangalore – Protest gathering for Gauri Lankesh

September 20, 2017
There was a real big gathering on September 12th, the day of protest convention in Bangalore, exactly a week after the murder of Gowri Lankesh. The main organisers were Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike [ Karnataka Communal Solidarity Forum], and Karnataka Jana Shakthi along with SFI which had joined hands in this issue. A number of other democratic and left organisations as well as independent groups from various states and Karnataka shared the dias. Prominent individuals addressed the people. Swamijis from different ‘progressive’ mutts of Basavanna tradition in the state were also present. Multitude of songs, poems, posters as well as some skits had been created by many people voluntarily. The main common factor in the crowd of almost 10000, without usual exaggeration, was the strong anti communal feeling. A good one third of it consisted of students and other democratic sections much of which was new.
There was a meeting for national level coordination and action on this the same evening.
The invite for a meeting with activists in Delhi and around has also been fixed for 19th.
