Turkey - Not Flormar, but the resistance and the solidarity make beautiful!” Yeni Kadin

Flormar’da Saldırılara Karşı Direniş Devam Ediyor

The workers of the Flormar cosmetics company, which is located in the industrial area in Gebze, started to organize
in the trade union Petrol
-
Is in January of this year. After a short
time, enough members had found together to
negotiate a collective bargaining agreement. But the employer was reluctant to sit at the negotiating table and
promptly quashed 15 union members. At the same time, he has begun a systematic mobbing to persuade ot
her
employees to quit, after which the workers started a joint protest outside the factory gates on May 15th. In order not
to leave their colleagues alone at the gates of the factory, 70 employees in the factory applauded their solidarity and
were also fir
ed the following day on the grounds that they were “supporting an illegal organization”. With the "illegal
organization" cleary the trade union Petrol
-
Is is meant!... Thus, a total of 119 persons have been fired to this day. The
dismissed workers were not
only deprived of their severance pay, but at the same time received entries in their
judicial record extracts, which makes it impossible for them to seek work in the future.
In the factory, where nearly 400 people work, production has fallen by 60
-
70%. The
managers have therefore started
instead of the dismissed workers to hire temporary workers without any insurance or protection.
The managers, who feel disturbed by the solidarity and interest of the public and who want to prevent contact and
solidarity be
tween the workers and strikers, have set up a fence around the factory grounds. To provoke the workers,
they use all means
-
including physical attacks. But despite all the violence, the Flormar workers have been carrying
on their resistance for almost 150
days.
The Flormar workers are not alone!
From the production to the marketing of cosmetics, women's work and bodies are exploited. Women are also the
ones who consume most of the cosmetics, but they are also the first to be fired as soon as they organize
against the
bad working conditions. As well as in the production site of Flormar in Gebze.
The resistance of the workers at Flormar is very significant today, especially considering the economic situation
created by today's representatives of Turkish fasci
sm. There is no doubt that this resistance is not just limited to the
workers at Flormar. The resistance of the workers at CARGILL in Bursa, who have also been fired, is approaching its
170th day. Over the past few days, more than 400 workers have been arr
ested for protesting against the miserable
living and working conditions at the construction site of the third airport in Istanbul. While most were released after a
few hours, 24 workers were arrested. Although such resistance from workers does not yet mak
e the rule, they
nevertheless play an important role in Turkey's current situation. Simultaneously, the resistance of the workers at
Flormar remains very special for us women, as a large part of the workers at Flormar are women. At a time when
attacks on t
he working people and all the oppressed are on the rise, and any struggle for democratic rights is being
crushed by the repressive organs of the state, the attacks against women defending their rights are even more brutal.
In today's Turkey, where patriarc
hy carries out massive attacks on women and the work of women, both the
resistance and the hope of women at Flormar are growing through their power of production.
Resistance of the women at Flormar reaches the 150th day on the 6th of October. Therefore, as
Yeni Kadin
-
New
Wo
man, we declared the week of 01
-
14
October as a week of solidarity with the Flormar workers. As the voice of the
Flormar workers in Europe, as Yeni Kadin we call on women to boycott the products of Flormar and Yves Rocher
(Yves Rocher o
wns 51% of Flormar's shares) and shout: "NOT FLORMAR, BUT THE RESISTANCE AND THE
SOLIDARITY MAKE BEAUTIFUL”. The Flormar executives, who see women as cheap replacement workers, must
be aware that the workers at Flormar are not alone!
Long live the resista
nce of the Flormar working class
Long live the liberation struggle of women
