Workers at Samsung supplier strike over pay, insurance
Workers at a original equipment manufacture (OEM) factory in southern
China that produces components for Samsung Electronics went on strike
on March 29 over pay levels and social insurance deductions, reports the
Guangzhou-based 21st Century Business Herald. The OEM company in
Dongguan has over 1,000 employees and is a branch company of the Korean
Samkwang Science & Technology, which is a supplier for Samsung. One
striking worker was quoted by news portal NetEase as saying that the
company deducts 80 yuan (US$12.90), or 8%, from a seasoned worker’s
monthly 1,000 yuan (US$160) salary for social insurance.
