2 CRPF jawans killed in suspected Naxal attack on polling day
Bihar Patna: Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed and four others injured in a landmine blast in Bihar early this morning. The blast took place between Jamui, where voting is being held in the third phase of Lok Sabha election, and Munger. The blast took place at around 4 am this morning when the jeep of the CRPF personnel, who were on patrolling duty, was blown up. The injured jawans have been rushed to Munger. The Naxals, who have boycotted these elections, are believed to be behind this blast.

Eleven bombs found in two Bihar constituencies
Patna: Eleven bombs planted by Maoists in Gaya and Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar were found Wednesday by security forces, police said. Gaya’s Senior Superintendent of Police Nishant Tiwari said five “cane bombs” were recovered from Banke Bazaar area and near Sherghati. In Aurangabad, six similar bombs were found near Aruara and Pathakbigha village and other places.
Chhattisgarh: Naxals open fire at security forces in Bastar
Raipur, Apr 10: Naxals opened fire at security forces near ten polling booths in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-hit Bastar Parliamentary seat, where around 30 per cent of the electorate cast their votes till noon. Besides, a huge haul of explosives, including 15 IEDs and three pressure bombs, were today recovered by security forces from separate places, averting a massive strike by the ultras in the insurgency-hit region. “Naxals opened fire on security forces near around ten polling booths while voting was underway there. No injury or casualty was reported in the incidents,” a senior police official told PTI.
Rebels fled to the forest after security personnel launched retaliatory attack on them, he said. The polling booths where firing was reported are – Korra and Amirgarh in Sukma district, Samoli and Thanikarka booths in Dantewada district, Nednar booth of Narayanpur district, Padeli and Raigabodi in Kondagaon, he said.
Naxals trigger explosions in Jharkhand before polling
Ranchi: Maoists exploded a series of landmines in the forests of Latehar district and exchanged gunfire with security personnel early on Thursday before the polling began for the Chatra Lok Sabha seat in Jharkhand. The landmines were exploded at around 1.30 am, half a km from a picket under Barwadih police station, Latehar Superintendent of Police Michael S Raj told PTI. A brief gun battle also took place, he said. However, there was no casualty.
Suspected Maoists torch mobile phone tower
Suspected Maoists set ablaze a mobile phone tower of a private telecom giant at Gannavaram village in Bhadrachalam mandal shortly after Wednesday midnight. The incident occurred about 25 km away from the temple town of Bhadrachalam. It comes just 20 days ahead of the general elections in the district slated for April 30. Sources said that a group of suspected rebels set afire the battery room and other vital equipment of the mobile phone tower after pouring petrol on the components at the cell site in the village around 1.30 a.m. Panel boards, batteries and other transmission apparatus were completely damaged in the incident.
The incident came to light in the early hours of Thursday when some local villagers noticed the burnt equipment lying at the cell site. The cellular phone services in the coverage area of the damaged cell site were reportedly paralysed following the incident. The suspected rebels left behind a poster in the name of Maoist district committee near the damaged cell site. Sources said that the poster contained slogans denouncing elections, Opencast Mines, Operation Green Hunt and Polavaram project.
3 CRPF personnel killed in Naxal attack in Sukma
Sukma: Three personnel of Cobra force of Central Reserved Police Force were killed in an encounter with Naxals in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. In the first incident that occurred in Sukma district, Naxals opened heavy fire on a patrol of the specialised anti-Naxal operations force CoBRA that was coming back after escorting a polling party which has reached the Naxal stronghold as part of the polls scheduled on Thursday. Officials said a strong squad of about 100 Naxals surrounded the party from three sides, leading to the killing of three commandos while three others were injured. “The troops were hit on the back.
They were killed as they received bullet injuries while on their way back,” a senior official said. The incident comes at a time when the forces are at their maximum alert. A joint column of CRPF, state police and commandos on a helicopter have been launched in the area, the official said, adding a “cordon and search” operation has been launched. “We are alive to every possibility and we will conduct the polls peacefully,” a senior security official monitoring the security forces deployment in Delhi said.
Two CRPF men injured in Naxal blast in Raipur
Naxals carried out two powerful blasts in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, injuring two CRPF personnel, on April 9. The blast comes a day before Lok Sabha polls in the area. According to preliminary information, a patrol squad of the force was on a operational task when two Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts occurred in the forests of Bijapur near Gangloor village. “The blasts were powerful and few personnel were feared to have been hit by shrapnels of the improvised bomb,” a senior official said.
Maoists dig up roads in Malkangiri
In a bid to disrupt the first phase elections in Malkangiri district tomorrow , the Maoists have dug up roads at several places under the Mathili block along Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, reports said. According to reports, the left wings ultras have prevented movement of traffic by digging up roads at Mahupadar, Kamalapalli, Salimi, Tulasipadar, Haldikund, Tembapalli and Kasrabhata of Mathili block where they have put up posters and banners urging people to boycott the elections. They have also warned the polling officials of trial in ‘praja courts’ if they do not stay away from duty. While there is panic among people in these areas, the polling officials appear scared, the reports said, adding that there is every likelihood that polling in these Maoist affected booths would be affected.
