Clash at Tata Steel plant, 18 injured
KENDRAPADA: A person sustained bullet injuries and 17 others were
hurt in a clash between workers and security personnel at the Tata Steel
project site at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district on Monday. Police said
trouble started when hundreds of workers held a demonstration, demanding
overtime dues of the last two months. When the company rejected their
pleas, they ransacked the office. “Security personnel initially tried to
stop them, but when situation aggravated they opened fire,” additional
superintendent of police, Kalinganagar, Pradipta Kumar Sahani. Police
said Maheswar Patra, 22, of Jaleswar in Balasore district was injured in
the firing. He was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in
Cuttack.
