Iran Protest by thousands of miners enters 12th day
NCRI – For the 12th day, thousands of miners and members of their families continued their protest in the central city of Bafgh demanding the release of detained workers. The protest by the workers at Bafgh Iron Ore began on August 19 following the arrest of a number of workers for their role in a protest in May that lasted for 40 days. The mine is located in the city of Bafgh in province of Yazd. The workers and their families form half of the population of the city. In May protest, the worker wanted the plans for transferring 28.5 percent of the mine’s share to private sector be cancelled and the profit from the shares be spent on improving the living conditions in the city.
About 5,000 miners in strike in Iran
About 5,000 iron ore mine workers in Iran’s central Yazd Province continue their strike which was started on Aug. 19. The workers of Bafq iron ore mine went on strike, protesting the arrest of two miners by police, Iran’s ILNA news agency reported Aug. 21. The arrested miners, Amir Hossein Kargaran and Ali Sabri are reportedly accused of organizing a 40-day strike which started on May 18 in protest of the privatization of the mine. They were arrested after their employer filed a formal complaint with the police. No further details have been released on the issue. Police failed to arrest the other 16 miners that the employer filed a complaint against.
Myanmar Workers Burn Car, Damage Factory During JB Riot
KULAIJAYA – A group of Myanmar foreign workers set ablaze a Proton Iswara Aeroback and damaged a factory in a riot at Desa Perindustrian Kulai 2, Kelapa Sawit here this morning. It is learnt that the group of foreign workers had a misunderstanding with the management and went on a riot at 11.20am. In the incident, the factory’s front facade was damaged, while a Proton Iswara Aeroback was set ablaze and turned upside down. The Fire and Rescue Services Department was immediately despatched to the scene and the fire was under control at 11.38am.

20 injured as police, workers clash in Narayanganj
A clash between workers of a Narayanganj factory and police have left 20 injured in Bandar Upazila. The clash erupted when workers of Partex Particle Board factory in Madanpur put up a road blockade to demand hike in pay on Saturday. Traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway was disrupted for almost one hour. The Partex factory workers have been agitating for several days, said Bandar Police OC Akhter Morshed. Police removed their blockade to ease traffic on the highway, he said.
Hundreds of the factory’s workers did not join work and began demonstrating at 8am, witnesses say. They moved to the highway and set logs on fire to stop traffic. Additional policemen were deployed at 8:30 am and they baton-charged workers when they refused to move away from the road. The workers fought
