Naxal poster creates flutter in Kagaznagar
A wall poster purportedly pasted by naxalites at the Battupalli crossroads flyover in Kagaznagar on Thursday created a flutter among the concerned sections of society not only for its timing but content. The appearance of the cloth poster, carrying a warning for corrupt politicians and officials, coincides with the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week being observed by Maoists and the first day of the State government’s Anti-corruption week. Written in red, the poster prominently claims that the warning is the fight for the poor people.
It has been written in the name of People’s War, a faction of CPI-ML which had merged with CPI (Maoist) in 2004. The contents mention Revenue officials seeking bribes to solve problems of poor peasants such as issue of pattas on lands. Among the politicians who are warned of stringent action if they do not desist from corrupt practices are the MLA, Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency member and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency member besides sarpanches. “We are checking upon the authenticity of the poster,” Kagaznagar DSP Gummi Chakradhar told The Hindu. The poster was apparently pasted at the busy place sometime during the previous night.

Maoists blame KCR, Kavitha for encounters
Warangal: A letter, purportedly written by Maoists, created a flutter at Bachannapet village in Warangal on Friday as it accused chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his daughter and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha of masterminding the encounters in Telangana. The handwritten two-page poster, pasted on a tree, was signed by ‘Viplav Kumar Mao’, who claimed to be a member of the Maoists’ central committee. The handbill also called on the people to take part and celebrate the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army’s Week that began on December 2.
The PLGA is the military wing of the banned CPI (Maoist) party. While criticising the state government, the handbill also provided an indication that the Maoists are attempting to recruit newcomers to their movement. Calling on people to prevent the state government from perpetrating atrocities on the poor, it called on the youth to join the people’s army to fill the gaps created by the killing of the PGLA members by the security forces. The handbill said the TRS government had deviated from its promises of working towards the welfare of the poor since it came to power last year.
Further, it said that the September encounter between police and the Maoists in Warangal in which two Maoists, Shruti and Vidyasagar, were killed showed the brutality the TRS government was ready to inflict on those fighting for the rights of the people. “Not a word of sympathy was issued by anyone even after Shruti was raped, her body burnt with acid and then killed by the police, the Maoist said in the handbill. Bachannapet inspector of police Venkateshwar Reddy said that the poster was not issued by Maoists but by some local Maoist sympathisers just to gain some attention.

Maoists conduct meeting at Gilagondi
On the second day of its annual PLGA week observation, the banned CPI (Maoist) has reportedly conducted a public meeting at Gilagondi village, near Gunukurayi in G.K. Veedhi mandal on Thursday as part of its support to Girijans’ campaign against State and Central governments’ plan to start bauxite mining in the Agency. People from neighbouring villages along with Jerrela area, for which the Union Forest Ministry has given clearance for bauxite mining and the State government issued a GO, No. 97 last month, have reportedly participate in the meeting which was organised by the Korukonda area committee of the CPI(Maoist).
The party repeated its call to Girijans to intensify the agitation against bauxite mining plan and force the government to cancel all GOs and permits for the mining during the meeting and wanted peoples’ representatives and leaders of all political parties to join the agitation. During the meeting the Maoists have reportedly inquired about former Sarpanch of Jerrela panchayat S. Venkata Ramana, during whose term the Panchayat is reported to have passed a resolution giving its consent to bauxite mining, as noted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the white paper he issued on bauxite mining. The ex-Sarpanch is at present is reportedly staying at Narsipatnam.

Maoists torch bus ahead of panchayat elections

Ahead of the third phase of panchayat elections, Maoists torched a bus at Posa locality under Panki police station in the extremist-hit Palamau district on Thursday, the police said. Around a dozen CPI(Maoist) ultras intercepted the bus on its way to Medininagar from Ranchi and asked the passengers and driver to get down before they poured petroleum products and set it ablaze, said DIG (Palamau), Saket Kumar Singh. The incident occurred barely two days before the third phase of the four-phase panchayat elections. Keeping the polls in view, the district administration has taken the incident seriously and launched a massive hunt to apprehend the culprits, who escaped after committing the crime. “We have sealed the bordering areas and conducting search operation to trace those involved in the incident,” Mr. Singh added.
