GUNTUR: Arrested Maoist leader Bhutham Annapurna has said that she had no intention of surrendering before police and is still drawn towards revolutionary ideology.
Annapurna, who also goes by the names Padma, Aruna and Suguna, said: “As I fell sick, I came to my sister’s house five days ago to take rest. I have not yet decided about my future.” The aspirations of people would only be realised through a revolution. “I still believe that the society will witness changes only through revolutions. As we believe the same, we are fighting for the cause,” she told the media in the presence of Guntur Rural SP K Narayana Naik.
The SP produced the Maoist before the media a day after her arrest, here on Wednesday. Naik said Annapurna (44), a native of Julakallau in Piduguralla mandal, was attracted towards revolutionary literature as her brother Bhutham Mastan was an active member of Jana Natya Mandali. She used to perform in the programmes organised by the Mandali along with Gaddar and others, while pursuing Class X. Later, in 1994, she joined the Chandravanka Naxal group and married the group commander Nane Narasimha Reddy alias Ganganna. After getting involved in Maoist activities in Guntur and Prakasam districts and in Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB), Dandakaranayam and Chhattishgarh areas, she was elevated as DCM cadre leader.
She was accused in several cases including murders of two police SIs and 9 constables and also some other on the pretext of police informers from 2000 to 2010. Cases are also pending against her on the charges of possessing lethal weapons. She was also carrying a cash reward of Rs. 5 lakh on her head. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, after learning about her arrival, the Vinukonda police arrested her in Ravulapuram village in Bollapalli mandal and also seized some revolutionary books.
