Maoist hunger strike at Jharpada Jail: Azad,six associates hospitalised
Bhubaneswar: Maoist leader Azad and six others sitting on a hunger strike at Jharpada Circle Jail have been admitted to the Capital Hospital here on Wednesday.
As per sources, the condition of Azad and the six fellow inmates is serious as they have been on a hunger strike for the last seven days.
Azad along with the six sat on hunger strike on March 30 for fulfillment of their five point demand including quick trial of cases against them.
Azad’s mother D Kamullama and his lawyer Dilli Rao had visited Azad in the jail on Monday and had reported his condition to be deteriorating demanding fulfillment of his demands.After the intervention of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) to the Prisons Directorate, Home Department and DGP, ADG (Prisons) Arun Kumar Ray had visited the jail on Sunday to take adequate steps to end the strike. Notably, Azad has sat on hunger strike thrice before since the start of his jail term at Jharpada Jail in 2011.
