March 8, International Women’s Day, is an opportunity to celebrate the just struggles of women worldwide and renew the commitment to the complete liberation of women from the domination of the inhumane class system. We honor this day and pay tribute to all women, especially the brave and hardworking women of Afghanistan who have stood against the dark oppression of the Taliban. March 8 not only reminds us of the relentless efforts of women to achieve their human rights but also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness and mobilize millions of women oppressed by the class system in the fight for a world free of exploitation and oppression.
In the three years since the dark rule of the Taliban Emirate began, Afghan women have faced unprecedented challenges. They have been deprived of the right to education, choice, work, travel, social participation, and the most basic human rights. Harsh restrictions, poverty, organized violence, forced marriages, and systematic oppression have made the daily lives of Afghan women increasingly difficult. Despite these conditions, Afghanistan’s courageous and hardworking women continue their struggle, raising their voices for freedom and equality. Their resistance against the Taliban’s tyranny inspires women around the world.
Today, more than ever, it is essential for all men who defend women’s rights, the revolutionaries of Afghanistan, and the people of the world to stand with women and support their rights. No society can achieve welfare, progress, and freedom without the complete liberation and participation of women in social, economic, and political arenas.
March 8 reminds us communists that the fight for gender equality is not confined to one country—it is an internationalist responsibility. Despite the complete deprivation of Afghan women’s rights to education, work, and social participation, women around the world—from Afghanistan to the United States, from Russia to the Congo—face shared challenges. Discrimination, violence, and denial of fundamental rights are struggles common to women in many societies. Therefore, the fight for women’s rights and liberation is an inseparable part of the broader struggle to create a world free of exploitation and oppression.
International Women’s Day not only commemorates the historical struggles of women to achieve equal rights and liberation from patriarchal culture and constraints but also symbolizes global solidarity in building a more just and equal future. From Clara Zetkin to the women of the Russian Revolution and the socialist movements, the history of this day stands as a testament to women’s perseverance and resistance against the dominance of patriarchal and class-based systems.
On this day, let us commit to defending the just rights and struggles of Afghan women and vow to continue our fight until the complete liberation of women from the shackles of the patriarchal system, which is an integral part of the global class system. Let us remember Mao’s famous words: “As long as one woman remains in bondage, all the people of the world are in bondage.”
Long live the just struggles of Afghan women! Down with the misogynistic Taliban Emirate!
