To the workers, the youth, the women and all those who participate in the great movement in Solidarity with Paletinian people, culminated with the great and huge demonstration of Rome the October 4. We are back after a brief interruption, because in these important days for Palestine, but even more for our country, we had been engaged. We were inside the demonstrations, in every city we operate, we were inside the blocks, where we could be, we were inside the general strike in which we took part in every city with our delegations in the demonstrations. And, obviously, we were in Rome, in the huge demonstration last Saturday.
We are not so many, we are a group of comrades, active militants, both politically and inside the struggling organizations, the Slai Cobas, the Proletarian Revolutionary Feminist Movement, the Proletarian Red Aid, wherever it is possible to unite, to give a contribution and orientation to the struggles, first of all of the proletarians and more generally of the people’s masses of our country.
Now is the time to think about what happened, what is happening, what will happen in the next days so important for Palestine, and when we say Palestine, we mean the world, our country, where a movement of this magnitude was missing for a long time. The long winter begun at the end of 70s, after which we saw few fires in the following years, is beginning to be overcome and the great movement pro-Palestine, like that pro-Vietnam in the 60s, can be a great opportunity for the general awakening of the youth, the masses, and finally the workers' movement, the working class, of the most exploited workers in our country.
That season had its peak, after the beginning in 1968, in the “hot autumn” 1969. It is useless to make
improper comparisons, but something in the current situation shows aspects similar to what gave life to that gigantic season of struggles, of possible revolution and organization for it. The demonstration in Rome is the greatest one we have seen in recent years.Above all, it is the greatest political, social, human, civil demonstration, this is what has to be said. This demonstration gathered one million people, more or less, and these million people were there for a single reason -the full solidarity to Palestine, against the genocide, the deportation, the war against on a people that had not been seen for a long time, that remembered the darkest times of the history, not only of the region, but of the world.
We talk about genocide, extermination, etc. But, of course, we also talk about the gigantic movement, of revolt -it can be called so- that has gradually touched an entire sector of the population -proletarians, youth and women- who at finally found the channel, the way to be able to go down to the square as they wanted, with their conscience, with their political and social reason and feelings.
In this sense, it has been really a great demonstration, that indicates that the wind is changing. The wind is changing, the wind of war, reaction, genocide and horrors that all the ruling classes, from the fascist executioner Trump, to Netanyahu, through all the governments and ruling classes. Our country has always been brooding the blackest reaction that took the name of fascism that was invented by the Italians, it was born in Italy, then there were Nazism and all the forms of military dictatorship of the reactionary ruling classes that took different shapes in the various countries of the world, according to their respective conditions.
The wind is changing! The ideas of revolt have never died, they have been buried by neither the shortcomings of the movements or the enemies of the movements: governments of the the capitalist bourgeoisie, the imperialist bourgeoisie, of the business bourgeoisie, the comprador bourgeoisie in the countries oppressed by imperialism. All the bourgeoisie have tried to bury the ideas of revolt and rebellion in every corner of the world. In part they succeeded, in part they could not to prevent the hotbeds of revolt from remaining standing to mark time, awaiting the rising tide of the mass movement.
The demonstration in Rome is part of all this, let's understand it, because if we understand that it is within all this, we gain optimism and also better realize what we can really do, including what we can't do or still can't do.
In a week, particularly since September 22, date of general strike declared by a part of the base unions, which has seen the participation much wider than the activists and the workers enrolled in these trade unions, the strikers have found the container, the channel through which all those who wanted to do something more, could do more.
At the front-line there were those who had always been doing it since October 7 2023. Since then there are people in the squares, including us, week by week, month by moth, now for two years. We did not stop a moment even when we were few and continued when we became 50, 500, until when as Yu Kung we shook the people and the feelings of the entire movement in our country, which, somehow has been moved by two fundamental elements, moved in an emotional way, but also moved by the tenacity of the facts and the enormous sacrifice offered by the Palestinian people. A sacrifice, beware, as a form of resistance, rebellion.
The Palestinian people are the victim of a great historical injustice and an ongoing genocide and deportation, but also by the player of an indomitable resistance that has gradually produced its representatives, who have interpreted the process, from the First Intifada to October 7. The need to rebel, to the daily upheaval, occupation, injustice, the mother of all injustices against the oppressed peoples of the world, the poor of the world and, in particular, the enormous massacre of women and children.
Palestine is there to testify that monsters the bourgeoisie, imperialism, gives birth to, from Trump, to Netanyahu, to the indecent little monster Meloni in our country, have done everything, thinking they could do everything, having the right to do everything, to cancel international rights, even the rules of war, to express all the darkness of their souls, as well as the extreme expression of the interests of the rich, of the ruling classes.
The Palestinian people resisted and continue resisting. It is this that, in the end, meeting the circumstances, not at all banal, but very significant, of the attacks to the flotilla, has allowed that this drop makes the sea to overflow, the sea of the masses. So, as it has been said in the demonstration, the peoples are better than the classes ruling them. This has always and everywhere been the case,
When the sea that becomes a tide and invades the squares always the youth, the students, are the detonators. Once again. Of course, not all those who demonstrated were students, but certainly the role of the students movement, of the youth, has been and is important, in this huge movement of people.
Returning from the sky of representation to the reality of the facts, there were a million of us. Those who participated in the demonstrations, those who know these things minimally, know well that there were a million of us. Also the representatives of the ruling class, who first, through Meloni’s statements, insulted the demonstrators. They tried to stop then with repression, using the threatens of the security decrees. But when the people, the masses, the youth rebel, they are not afraid, certainly not of articles of law, a little more of police charges, but just a little more. Because when you are on the side of reason, when you fight not for yourself, but for the deeper cause of life, not only of a people, in this case the Palestinian people, but of all peoples, there is an inner impetus that cannot be stopped.
The wind, this wind cannot be stopped. At least from Palestine. Palestine must be liberated, must go to the Palestinians, from the river to the sea, in the historical circumstances that allow us today, in the face of the 75 years of occupation that have created the people of Israel, which far from being the elected people, far from being the ultimate victims of Nazi holocaust, has been reconstructed on the basis of the worst principles, similar to Nazism, which in the Israeli version is called Zionism.
It is therefore an illegitimate state that was built with any kind of support by imperialism which, in the name of compensating the victims, has in fact created the historical disgrace of implanting the Western Zionist creation in the heart of the Middle East to the detriment of the Palestinian people, a peaceful people which has been savagely attacked, chased from house to house, and had to suffer not one, but ten times the horror to escape from their own homes, from their own lands. The Palestinian refugees are millions, outside of Palestine. The Palestinians who are in Palestine, in Gaza and the west Bank, are a minority of a people chased year after year, day after day, with all possible means, and at the same time with the complicity now hypocritical, now open of the so-called international institutions, from the UN to the last Human Rights Commission.
This has finally reached the masses in the imperialist countries with the significant example of the flotilla, but clearly the flotilla is the drop that makes the vase overflow. We say so also to those who took side with the flotilla: you did very well, we must continue, but we must go deep into this meaning. The flotilla is the generous participation of representatives of the so-called civil society, of the democratic part of this civil society, socially and politically, who want to do something to break the siege, to bring humanitarian aid, which is a drop in the ocean of the needs of the Palestinian people, but it aims to establish that this must be done, at all costs. It ha not been done nor by the international institutions and the governments that say they recognize the State of Palestine, and less than ever the left parties, the trade unions, which should have been the first to mobilize if they were as they represent themselves, and not as they really are.
The verbal violence, in violation of all humanity, expressed by Meloni and Salvini by insulting and denigrating the flotilla participants, is a crime, a violence that is combined with the material violence, certainly infinitely greater, of genocide. Added to this violence is Israel's boarding of the vessels, the attempted humiliation, the harassment, the imprisonment while our government was permitting and encouraging them, and we are absolutely convinced that, in their hearts, people like Meloni, Crosetto, and the entire breed of small men and women monstrously elevated by the crisis of capitalism to government, applauded them and placed themselves at the service of the State of Israel. And Israeli did what they wanted.
The flotilla affected all those sectors of the population and associations that had not yet taken to the streets, that had remained trapped by the bourgeois, Zionist, and imperialist propaganda of their press and television, that had remained trapped by the foolishness of the so-called "parliamentary opposition," which did infinitely less than was necessary in the face of the ongoing crime against the Palestinian people and the international community.
The European Court of Justice and Francesca Albanese did something, but the parliamentary parties did not even a tenth, and certainly not because they were a minority in Parliament. On September 22nd, the opposition parties held a demonstration, but they kept well away from the movement, and the movement, in its most majority, knows well that these so-called "opposition" parties are not their parties, are not their representatives, and that the movement must advance, and advance independently.
The demonstration in Rome was huge for these reasons. It was prepared by an intense real mobilization that saw squares filled day and night, blockades of ships, highways, stations, sieges of the Leonardo plant, and so on. These are beautiful pages that demonstrate to the fullest that it's time to rebel, it's time to rebel in all forms, according to the necessary levels of consciousness. The slogan "let's block everything" had this meaning – to block everything because we can't go on like this, we can't allow everything to happen and reach the final epilogue— but it also says that we all have to do something. This was the demonstration in Rome.
Everyone must claim the part played in this demonstration because it is right and legitimate, but no one should think of appropriating the "wind". The wind cannot be stopped, because the idea, the strength of a free Palestine, from the river to the sea, penetrates impetuously, not only in the slogans, but in the awareness of the historical necessity that this great goal, in the current context of plans for genocide and deportation and unfavorable balances of power for the Palestinian people, but also for the peoples of the world, this battle, must be fought and fought to the end.
We were at this demonstration with our contingent, by our slogans, in the present we imagined the future. The slogans, even if in their simplifications, tell the truth in a concise form and outline the future. Everyone did their part, we did ours. The great demonstration in Rome changes the state of affairs in Palestine because it represents an anchor. The Palestinian people can count on the Italian masses, "the Italian people know which side to take," and Rome has demonstrated it and the Palestinians cannot but be happy with what is happening in our country and with the contagion that, even in the form of the flotilla, from our country is reacing other countries—our country, not its government that has reached the heights of disrepute. Meloni's insults demonstrate the moral poverty and pettiness of those at the governments, but also their ferocity, their will to oppose the people, to erase democracy, feelings, rights, histories and civilization, including the Constitution, to turn back history, to turn back the clock. And this is fascism.
The demonstration in Rome shows that this cannot be done, fascism will not pass, and we should have waited for demonstrations like this, so that this message begins to become not the hope of small groups of genuine leftists, but the possible reality in this country at this historical juncture.
