The Joint Action Coordination Committee for Palestine strongly
condemns the abuses committed by the authorities during the arrest of
Comrade Ghassan Hanchiri, a member of the Committee and a member of
the Tunisian Steadfastness Flotilla Committee, last night. This is
yet another step in a continuous pattern of security harassment and
legal proceedings targeting activists and advocates for the
Palestinian cause in Tunisia.
What Comrade Ghassan
Hanchiri has endured is not an isolated incident, but rather part of
a systematic policy to criminalize solidarity with the Palestinian
people and to intimidate the free voices that continue to raise the
banner of support for Gaza in the face of the genocidal war waged by
the Zionist entity, a war that has intensified and escalated in
recent days. We consider this a dangerous threat to the historical
principles of Tunisians in their support for Palestine and their
defense of liberation movements. The Coordination Committee also
expresses its strong condemnation of what can only be interpreted as
submission to American hegemony, as clearly demonstrated in the
recent statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which blatantly
ignored the condemnation of the American and Zionist aggression
against Iran. This stance reflects a state of alignment with
imperialist policies aimed at subjugating the region and silencing
all voices of resistance.
Criminalizing pro-Palestinian
activism and attempting to undermine popular and supportive
initiatives aimed at stopping the genocide in Gaza will not succeed
in breaking the will of the activists or extinguishing the deep
popular solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Therefore,
the Joint Action Coordination Committee for Palestine:
Demands
the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Ghassan Hanchiri
and all those detained for their pro-Palestinian activities.
Calls
for an end to all legal and security harassment targeting activists
and those involved in this issue. The Coordination Committee also
affirms that the Palestinian cause will remain a central issue in the
conscience of our people, and that all attempts at intimidation and
criminalization will not deter free people from continuing the
struggle alongside the Palestinian people until the genocide in Gaza
is stopped and Palestine is liberated.
