Rally and Procession Held in Dhaka on the International Day of Struggle and Solidarity –26 September 2026
Immediate Release of All Political Prisoners in India and an End to Repression, Massacres and Ethnic Oppression Demanded
A
rally and procession were held today, 26 September, in front of the
National Museum at Shahbagh in Dhaka, marking the International Day of
Struggle and Solidarity, protesting the repression, massacres and ethnic
oppression against the struggling people of India and demanding the
immediate release of all political prisoners in India.
The
rally was organized by the Committee Against the Genocide of Maoists
and Adivasis in India, Bangladesh. Speakers said that for a long time,
state forces in India have been carrying out repression against the
struggling people, leaders and activists associated with the Maoist
movement, and Adivasi communities in the name of military operations.
They
stated that through the military operation Operation Kagaar, which
began in January 2024, more than 750 Maoist leaders and activists and
ordinary Adivasis have been killed. Repression has not been limited to
this; progressive intellectuals supporting Maoism are being arrested and
subjected to repression by branding them as “Urban Naxals.” Through
arrests, imprisonment, killings, evictions, and various measures aimed
at establishing control over the people's land and natural resources,
the just rights and struggles of the people are being suppressed, the
speakers said.
The speakers demanded the immediate
release of all political prisoners in India, an end to repression and
massacres against the struggling people, and the establishment of the
rights of Adivasi peoples over their land, forests and natural
resources. They expressed solidarity with oppressed and struggling
peoples in different parts of the world, including India, and paid
solemn tribute to the martyrs of the people's just movements.
Those
who addressed the rally included Naeem Uddin, President, Revolutionary
Student-Youth Movement, Dhaka Metropolitan; Badal Shah Alam, Editor,
Khanan; Harun-or-Rashid, General Secretary, Maulana Bhasani Parishad;
Raghu Abhijit Roy, Organizer, Samaj Anushilan Kendra; Masud Khan,
President, Jatiya Ganatantrik Ganamancha; and Zafar Hossain, President,
New Democratic People’s Forum.
The rally was chaired by Hasan Fakri, Convener, Committee Against the Genocide of Maoists and Adivasis in India, Bangladesh.
Following
the rally, a procession was held from Shahbagh to Raju Sculpture and
back to Shahbagh. The procession raised various slogans demanding the
release of all political prisoners in India, an end to repression and
massacres against the people, and the establishment of the rights of
Adivasi peoples in the struggle to protect their water, forests and
land.
