This morning in Gabès one factory inside de 1,5 square Km Tunisian Chemical Group (State owned enterprise) faced an explosion that caused 6 dead among the workers (the information is not definitive since other workers are under traitment in the regional hospital with severe injuries). The firearms (Tunisian civil protection) were able to stop the fire after 3 hours.
Gabès is an industrial town since the ’70s when Tunisian Chemical Group and a big cement factory were founded and runned by the State. The capitalistic mode of production is the cause of several cancer deaths per year among the workers and the Gannouch and Chott el Salem popular neighborhoods next to the factories.
