Condemns the Killing of Comrade Ka Maria,
Central Committee Member of the Communist Party of the Philippines

On February 12, 2025, Comrade Myrna "Ka Maria" Sularte, a member of the
Central Committee and Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Philippines
(CPP), was martyred. At the age of 71, this communist revolutionary fell in battle
during a fierce clash between the New People's Army (NPA) and the fascist 901st
Infantry Brigade in Barangay Pianing, near the center of Butuan City. We, People's
Democratic Students Unity (PDSU), strongly condemn this killing and honor the
revolutionary life of Comrade Ka Maria. Those who lay down their lives for the
people do not die in vain—their deaths weigh heavier than mountains. Comrade
Ka Maria's sacrifice is no exception.
In 1977, during the darkest years of Marcos' fascist dictatorship, she joined the
Party and dedicated nearly five decades to organizing and advancing revolutionary
struggles across the cities and countryside of Mindanao. She was a passionate
student of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, applying the Party’s principles, strategies,
and programs in accordance with the concrete conditions of the Filipino people.
Comrade Ka Maria was a pillar of the Party’s Second Great Rectification Movement
(1992)—a rectification that she upheld with unwavering commitment. Even after
being diagnosed with cancer, she continued to fulfill her duties as a Party cadre and
a leader of the New People's Army.
The fascist Marcos regime, backed by U.S. imperialism, may believe that the death
of Comrade Ka Maria will weaken the Party and the revolution. But reality will
shatter their illusions. Her heroic struggle, revolutionary leadership, and selfless
sacrifice will continue to inspire the Party, the people's army, and the revolutionary
masses of the Philippines to carry forward her unfinished battle—the struggle for
the Filipino people’s democratic revolution, the world proletarian revolution. Just
as the fall of Marcos and U.S. imperialism is inevitable, so too is the victory of the
struggling people of the Philippines.
As students engaged in the struggle for a People’s Democratic Revolution toward
socialism and communism, we recognize that our country’s revolutionary
movement is an integral part of the world proletarian revolution. Advancing our
own revolutionary struggle is, in essence, advancing the world proletarian
revolution. Likewise, the forward march of revolutionary struggles worldwide is a
step forward for the world proletarian movement. Supporting and standing in
solidarity with these struggles is our revolutionary internationalist duty. Their loss
is our loss, and their fight is our fight.
We, People's Democratic Students Unity (PDSU), extend our unwavering support
to the Communist Party of the Philippines and the revolutionary Filipino masses.
We commit to standing alongside them as comrades in the world proletarian
revolution.
Long live Comrade Ka Maria!
Long live the people's war and democratic struggle of the Philippines!
Long live the People's Democratic Revolution of Bangladesh!
Long live the revolutionary struggles of the working class and oppressed nations
across the world!
