Redundant Bosnian Workers Protest in Tuzla
The protesters rallied on Wednesday in front of the cantonal government building in the north-eastern Bosnian town, calling for compensation and repayments of healthcare and pensions payments after the companies for which they worked failed. “We will block the Tuzla Canton government and we will not let them go out [of the building]. They should do their jobs or resign,” one of the protesters told local media. “We are not to blame that the companies are not working,” another said.
Protesters also demanded that the authorities ensure that 1,000 jobs are kept open at detergent company Dita and furniture company Konjuh, two of the failed firms. Also at the rally were workers from Polihem, which produced salt for industrial use, chemical company Poliochem and gum company Resod Guming, as well a local association for the unemployed, students and others. Local media reports said that protesters at one point broke into the cantonal government building before police got the situation under control, and one cameraman was injured.

28 mine laborers detained in Iran as they protested at working situation
Twenty eight mine laborers in Iran’s Chadormalu mine have been detained in Iran during the past three days, ILNA reported on February 2. Iranian MP Mohammad Saleh Jokar has criticized provincial and judicial officials of Yazd province for the detainment, saying that the reason behind the measure is unknown for the MPs. Dealing with the crisis in Chadormalu mine without hearing voices of protesting laborers is unacceptable, Jokar said.
On November 27, 2013, 800 laborers at the Chadormalu mine stopped working and held a one-hour sit-in in protest at what they called “unfair wages” and the sacking of Bahram Hassaninejad, the secretary of the laborers association of the mine. Following to that, some 2,000 laborers at the mine stopped working on December 6-8 in protest to the situation of Hassaninejad.
