Lens on 17 pro-rebel outfits
July 16: Bokaro SP A. Vijayalaxmi shot off letters to all 32
officers-in-charge (OCs) of the rebel-hit district to keep a close watch
on outfits promoting Naxalism in the garb of NGOs yesterday, 24 hours
after state police headquarters in Ranchi received a list of 17 such
active organisations in Jharkhand. The Union home ministry has listed 66
organisations operational across the country, which try and
indoctrinate rural and urban youths, farmers, labourers, daily wage
labourers, the displaced, and women with the Naxalite ideology, stoking
feelings of deprivation and resentment against the government and the
law of the land.
Among them, 17 are actively functional in Jharkhand. They include
known and not-so-known ones, such as Bharat Navyug Sabha, Communist Yuva
League, Democratic Students’ Union, Jharkhand Mazdoor Kisan Sangram
Parishad, Jharkhand Awam, Jharkhand Mukti Mancha, Jharkhand Liberation
Front, Krantikari Kisan Committee, Krantikari Budhijeevi Manch, Mazdoor
Sangathan Samiti, Nari Mukti Sangh, Nari Mukti Sangram Samiti,
Revolutionary Democratic Front, Revolutionary Students’ League, Shramik
Sangharsh Morcha, Operation Green Hunt Virodhi Nagrik Manch and
Visthapit Virodhi Jan Vikas Andolan. A high-level police source told The
Telegraph that the list was drawn up up with inputs from Intelligence
Bureau and special crime branch teams. SP Vijayalaxmi said her letter to
the OCs pointed out that these organisations always tried pointing out
to their target audience that the government machinery did nothing for
the common masses.
“All the OCs have been asked to remain vigilant and take strict
action according to law if any of the named organisations are found
working in an unconstitutional manner. But, I stressed that proof of
their anti-national activities must be collected before taking any
action whatsoever,” she said. A police officer who declined coming on
record said two of those in the list were known troublemakers whenever
any displacement related controversy brewed in and around Bokaro. “They
foment trouble among the land-losers and displaced. There is a thick
line between fighting for the rights of the masses and instigating
people to embrace Naxalism as a way of life,” he said.
