Washington Will Not Criminalize Our People’s Struggle or Strip Them of Their Right to Resistance and Return

The Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, the Masar Badil, strongly condemns the decision issued today by the U.S. Treasury Department in the Trump administration targeting the movement with sanctions under the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regime. This decision represents a new escalation in the United States’ genocidal criminal, political and economic war against the Palestinian people and the forces struggling for their freedom and return.

This decision does not intimidate us, nor does it change any of our convictions or positions. Rather, it once again exposes the nature of the U.S. role in protecting the racist Zionist colonial project and its attempt to suffocate every Palestinian voice and every free voice that rejects genocide, occupation, settlement, displacement and normalization.

Washington, which provides political, military and economic support to the occupation and continues to shield the Zionist entity from international accountability, is now attempting to use the tools of sanctions, repression, and political stigmatization to criminalize the Palestinian struggle itself and to turn solidarity with Palestine and work for liberation and return into a crime.

The Masar Badil Movement is a Palestinian internationalist movement that struggles for liberation, return and self-determination. It works to organize Palestinians in exile and diaspora and to build an international popular movement in support of the rights of the Palestinian people.

We affirm that the real terrorism is occupation, settler colonialism, displacement, siege and mass killing, not a revolutionary Palestinian popular movement that refuses to submit to this colonial reality.

The targeting of the Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement alongside the targeting of the comrades of Palestine Action reveals the expanding scope of the Western imperialist campaign aimed at silencing the Palestine solidarity movement and criminalizing forms of popular opposition to the occupation. Today’s Treasury designations also sanction the direct action movement Palestine Action, which was previously proscribed by Britain, while the legal and political battle over that state action continues amid a mass protest movement rejecting it.

Washington does not grant us the legitimacy of our struggle, nor can it take that legitimacy away from us.

Our legitimacy comes from our people, from the history of Palestine, from the refugee camps, and from our people’s natural right to liberation, return and self-determination.

We call on Palestinian, Arab and international forces, youth and student movements, trade unions, and all anti-colonial and anti-racist forces to reject the policy of criminalizing solidarity with Palestine and to confront attempts to turn political positions and grassroots activism into crimes.

We also call on solidarity movements in the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America and throughout the world to raise their voices against this policy and to affirm that Palestine is not a cause that can be banned by an administrative decree.

Throughout history, empires have tried to silence liberation movements through siege, laws and sanctions. Sanctions have never been able to erase the right of peoples to liberation.

Palestine will remain present.
The refugee camps will remain an embrace for all revolutionaries, steadfast in their commitment to return.
And the Palestinian people will continue their struggle to liberate their homeland, from the river to the sea.
