India - boykott campaign and big strikes!
Even as the political leaders and the district administration are busy with the various ongoing and coming elections, the Maoists are reportedly preparing for some major strike(s) in the district during the elections, according to sources. For this, they say, two ‘action teams’, one of which is led by Charles Sobraj and Mailarapu Adellu Alias Bhaskar and the other by another Maosit leader, have sneaked into the district via the Dandakaranya forests in Maharashtra and have started appointing village and mandal level committees. The district police, on their part, are taking all necessary measures to thwart any Maoist violence during the elections.
They have deployed 10 teams, each comprising 40 policemen, to conduct combing operations along with armed forces and Grey Hounds in the villages of Tiryani, Koutala, Dahegam, Vemanpelly, Narnor, Bejjur, Asifabad and Chennur mandals, especially those lying on the borders with Chattisgarh and Maharashtra, They are also looking for the Maoists in the forests abutting the Pranitha river banks.
District Superintendent of Police Dr Gajarao Bhupal told Express that the police teams were conducting combing operations deep inside the forests and were collecting information from the forest dwellers about the Maoists’ movements. He also said that the SEC had declared a different election schedule for the Maoist-affected areas. However, unlike in AP, elections in all the other Maoist-affected areas in states like Maharashtra, Chattisgarh , Western Orissa and Bihar poling will be held for one day and that too on the same day.
