Hereby we share an unofficial translation of a report published by A Nova Democracia.
Legislative police and military repressed a demonstration of more the 7,000 indigenous people, that participated in the march “La Respuesta Somos Nosotros” organized in the night of Tuesday (10th of April). The repression started when the legislative police fired teargas bombs against the protesters, which been approximating themselves to the National Congress. Some indigenous people been injured that hard that a medical treatment was necessary.
About one thousand of indigenous people left the Free Land Camp (ATL) at 17 o’clock, that is organized in Brasilia, and headed towards the National Congress. That day, the square in front of the Congress was free and without barricades, there for they could enter as far as possible until they got surprised by the teargas bombs.
There are many evidence that the police violence against the indigenous people was been planned. The articulation of indigenous people of Brasil (APIB) released an audio in that a “possible agent of the security forces”, instructed the policemen “during the meeting of the Public security Secretariat of Distrito Federal”, to “let them [indigenous people] enter [the square] … let them pass and hit them hard”.
Various organizations of indigenous people denounced the repression. The APIB refuted “firmly the outbursts of violence of the Indigenous discriminating Congress, led by the legislative police department (DPOL) and the military police of Distrito Federal (PMDF)”.
The Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi) published an article named “Once more the indigenous people receive the response of the reaction with the teargas bombs”. The Indigenous People Union of Brasil (Univaja) made clear that this is “another evidence of the modus operani of the national security forces against the indigenous people”
The demonstration has been held in midst of an intense movilization of indigenous people of al the country against the law “Marco Temporal” and against the ostensive reconciliation of the of the Federal Supreme Tribunal with the Landlords. According to the native people, the Ministry of Indigenous People (MPI) and the Funai should abandon the table of negotiations immediately.
Even though this occurred in Brasilia, the government of Luiz Inácio didn’t make an pronouncement about the violence that the policemen used against the fighting indigenous people. In contrary, the same government that allows the repression against the indigenous people who only approximated themselves to the National Congress Square, is breeding in the last days treaties with the far right and the “centrão bolsonarista” against the amnesty of the green chickens of the 8th of January. Double standards.
