Police-Maoists exchange fire in Visakhapatnam forests
The exchange of fire took place between 10.15 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. and
it appeared that the Maoists fired first to stall the police party and
to escape from the area. Maoists and a Special Party of police exchanged
fire near Cheedipalli of Gorrellametta village under Boodaralla
panchayat in Koyyuru mandal on Wednesday morning. Two groups of Maoists,
with 15 members, fired four rounds on the police party from a distance
of about 800 meters and the police retaliated by firing one round and
the Maoists escaped according to preliminary reports reaching here,
Superintendent of Police Koya Praveen said. The exchange of fire took
place between 10.15 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. and it appeared that the Maoists
fired first to stall the police party and to escape from the area.
Combing operations were intensified after the exchange of fire, Mr.
Praveen added. According to unconfirmed reports senior leaders of Maoist
party, commander of central regional committee-I Kudumula Ravi and
former head of military operations of the party in ABO Chalapathi were
present. The Maoists broke into three groups after the incident and
escaped into the forests. A few days ago the Maoists conducted a meeting
in this area and the leaders might be present there in this connection.
This is the second exchange of fire between the Maoists and the AP
Police in the AOB area in the recent times. There were some other

.SHO suspended in GT Road case, bandh near total in red zone
GAYA: Arjun Prasad, SHO of the Amas police station has been put under
suspension on the charge of dereliction of duty during the naxal
operation on the all important GT Road Sunday night. No less than 32
trucks were torched by the red rebels in one of its major operation on
the always busy National Highway. The police came in for criticism for
its allegedly lethargic and delayed response that virtually gave a free
run to the Maoists who were in total command of a 2 km long stretch of
the highway between Bishunpur and Taradih villages of the Amas police
station area. Confirming the suspension of the SHO, Gaya SSP Manu
Maharaj said that he would not tolerate any lapse on the part of the
cops.
The SSP also said that raids were being conducted to nab the ultras
involved in the incident that grabbed national headlines. No arrest has
so far been made in this connection, said the SSP. Though less than
normal, vehicular traffic went on smoothly on the GT Road, the economic
back bone of road transport in the country. However, bandh was almost
total in the naxal infested Dumaria, Imamganj, Banke Bazar and
Raushanganj police station areas of the district. It was partial in the
Barachatti, Dobhi, Amas and Gurua police station areas. Other parts of
the district remained more or less unaffected by the bandh. However, no
report of any untoward incident has been received from anywhere. The
bandh period expires at zero hour on Wednesday.
The 48 hours long bandh call was given by the Maoists to register
protest against the killing of Sarita Ganjhu, alleged to be a front
ranking woman leader of the CPI (Maoists), the banned naxal outfit.
Reports reaching from the naxal affected areas of the district say that
shops and other business establishments, commercial banks and govt
officers remained closed on the second day of the two day long bandh
sponsored by the Maoists. But for a few bikes, vehicular traffic in
these areas too remained paralysed as even three wheelers, the popular
mode of transport in the rural areas remained off the roads as three
wheeler operators feared naxal attack Panchayat in G.K. Veedhi mandal. The Maoists escaped into the
forests without retaliating.
