Tunis - protest against police abuse

Anger spreads in the city of Sbeitla after municipality police killed a squatter worker

Abderrazak Al-Khachnawi, 52 years old, built a small kiosk in the town of Sbeitla near the Algerian border (Kasserine region) selling some fruits and food, yesterday night around 3 a.m. municipality forces arrived in order to destroy the kiosk but Abderrazak was sleeping inside in order to prevent this destroying operation and he was killed.

REPORT THIS AD

The angry population burned tires and blocked the center of the town and attacked the municipality building, setting on fire one local police car, the army was deployed on the streets and near State buildings.

The mayor accused to having responsibility in this death replied that it was an indipendent choiche from the local governor of Kasserine publishing official conversations who proved that, that’s why the prime minister Mechichi fearing the spreading of this right revolt suddenly fired the governor of the region of Kasserine, the president of the delegation of Sbeitla and the head of local police. This is of course insufficient and the people of Sbeitla continues to ask justice for another martyr of the people.

Kasserine is one of poorest region in Tunisia with as unemployed rate of over than 40%, the Covid pandemy of course worsened the people conditions especially the ones of this unofficial worker and the blank market ones, but Tunisian State confirms to be in the hands of comprador and bureaucratic bourgeoisie doing his own interested and at the same time hitting and killing his own people.

Lawyers strike and demonstration against police abuse

Today the National order of lawyers has organized a strike and a demonstration started in front of the tribunal of Tunis that reached the Kasbah (siege of the gouvernment) https://www.facebook.com/452653971431316/videos/2403684353260455. It was a response against “menaces and impunity of police forces” against lawyers after that in Ben Arous (Big Tunis Region) a lawyer, Nesrine Guernieh, was menaced on her duty by a chief police officer.
