Mulugu District, December 9, 2024: The state-wide bandh called by the Telangana State Committee of the CPI (Maoist) to protest the December 1 fake encounter in the Chalpaka forest area of Mulugu district, which left seven Maoist cadres dead, was observed without incident today.
CPI (Maoist) TSC spokesperson Comrade Jagan had issued the bandh call, alleging that the state police had murdered seven Maoists in a fake encounter (including the Telangana State Committee member Kursam Mangu alias Badru), and urging the voluntary participation of the public. The bandh’s impact was evident in five mandals — Wazedu, Venkatapuram, Mangapet, Eturnagaram, and Kannaigudem — where shops, schools, and businesses remained closed. Essential services like medical shops operated, but public transport was halted.
Night bus services to far-flung areas in the border mandals of Wazeedu and Venkatapuram in Mulugu district were temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure since Sunday night.
The bandh passed off peacefully with no untoward occurrences being reported from anywhere in the State, though the police maintained a high state of operational preparedness in the areas along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border amid apprehensions of possible attacks by the Maoists targeting vital installations in retaliation for the slaying of the seven Maoist cadres by police in the December 1st fake encounter.
Joint teams of the police, CRPF personnel and bomb disposal squads intensified combing operations along the heavily forested Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in Bhadrachalam Agency of Bhadradri Kothagudem district during the State bandh called by the CPI (Maoist) TSC
