NDFP condemns abduction and detention of Prof. Dr. GN Saibaba and Jeevan Chandra
The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) vigorously
condemns the abduction of Prof. Dr. GN Saibaba, Joint Secretary of the
Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF), on 9 May 2014 in the premises of Delhi
University by plainclothes policemen of Maharashtra. He was blindfolded and
forcibly whisked away in a vehicle.
Dr. Saibaba is a professor of English at the Delhi University. He
is wheelchair bound with a 90% disability.
An outspoken critic of the regime's neoliberal policies which have
wreaked havoc on the Indian population, he is one of the central convenors of
the Forum Against the War on People.
This latest brazen act of abduction follows earlier harassments
against him. In September of 2013, his home was raided by the police with the
lame excuse of going after “stolen property”. They confiscated his belongings
(laptop, hard discs, etc.). Again, in the first week of January 2014, they made
a threatening visit with a notice for questioning.
The Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) just
issued the information that lawyers in Ahericourt in Gadchiroli district of
Maharashtra reported that Prof. Saibaba has been produced today before the
magistrate and was sent to judicial custody.
Another leading critic of the regime's anti-people policies, the
President of the Revolutionary Democratic Front in Uttarakhan, Jeevan Chandra
was arrested on 5 May 2014.
The NDFP condemns the abduction and detention of RDF officers,
Prof. Dr. GN Saibaba and Jeevan Chandra, and demands their immediate and
unconditional release.
