Let Us Strengthen Solidarity with the People of Venezuela! YANKEE GO HOME! - ATIK

On 3 January 2026, US military forces carried out an attack on Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, massacring dozens of people and taking President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, captive. Maduro and Cilia Flores were then abducted to the United States, after which threats against Venezuela continued. Imperialist countries that constantly lecture the world about international law, however, fell into silence in the face of this attempted occupation by the United States.

It is clear that this imperialist aggression, instigated chiefly by US and British imperialist forces, will in the future extend to other countries as well. While boasting about the attack, US President Trump did not hesitate to emphasise that Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, and Greenland—long coveted—are next in line. As the world rapidly moves towards the danger of a new imperialist war, this attack also demonstrates that the contradictions between imperialist blocs are deepening.

Because US imperialism regards Latin America as its own backyard, it has continually sought to maintain control over governments in the region through coups. The most recent attack shows the scale these assaults may take in the future. Having failed despite numerous previous coup attempts in Venezuela, the United States has now resorted to abducting President Maduro.

The US has carried out similar actions in the past in Peru. José Pedro Castillo Terrones, who was elected President by a large margin with strong popular support in the elections of 28 June 2021, was overthrown in a coup and imprisoned on 7 December 2022. Following Castillo’s arrest, repression and brutality against the people have continued through massacres. What is now being attempted in Venezuela is the same.

The underlying reality behind US imperialism’s attack on Venezuela is, on the one hand, its rich mineral resources and oil reserves, and on the other, the aim of enabling drug cartels to dominate the market freely across Latin America. The masses are manipulated with lies that these actions are carried out in the name of fighting drugs. A key reason for this operation is to securely open the routes for the drug trade produced in Latin America by cartels under US control. For this reason, the operation that first began in Peru has continued with Venezuela, and now the Caribbean, Mexico, and Colombia are being targeted.

This operation is also pushing the conditions for the contradictions between imperialist blocs to evolve towards a new world war. Venezuela is part of the Shanghai bloc led by China and Russia, and maintains economic, military, and political relations with this bloc. The clashes between these two blocs in the Middle East brought them face to face in the field with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The attack on Venezuela has further deepened these contradictions.

The struggle of the Venezuelan people against these attacks by US imperialism can only succeed with the support of the working class and oppressed peoples. For this reason, let us support the Venezuelan people’s just and legitimate struggle and strengthen it in every sphere. Against imperialist aggression, let us build a common struggle by forming anti-imperialist, anti-fascist alliances from the local to the central level.

The People of Venezuela Are Not Alone!

Long Live International Solidarity!
