Report of the International Support Campaign for Martyrs’ Week in India (July 28 – August 3) ICSPWI
The
international campaign to support of the People's War in India and to
commemorate comrade Basavaraj, General Secretary of the Communist Party
of India (Maoist), was held between July 28 and August 3, coinciding
with the annual call of the Martyrs' Week by the Communist Party of
India (Maoist).
Following the international campaign last April (see report here),
this represented a second step towards the prolonged campaign that our
committee has launched towards March 2026, with further stages in the
coming months, with the aim of internationally countering the dream of
the Indian comprador and bureaucratic bourgeoisie and imperialism of
"wiping out the Maoists from India by March 2026."
Despite
the heavy blow suffered by the Party with the loss of Comrade Basavaraj
and the 27 other comrades who fell in combat with him, and despite the
assassinations of Comrades Sudhakar and Bhaskar, members of the Party
Central Committee and the Talengana State Committee respectively, the
People's War in India, far from being defeated, continues to escalate.
Recent months have seen actions in several states, including Jharkhand,
Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
On the occasion of Martyrs' Week, the Communist Party of India (Maoist) has called on its party cadres, the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLA), and comrades from mass organizations to intensify protests against Modi's Hindutva regime. On the last day of this week of struggle, the party called a bandh (general strike, including a total blockade of public and private transportation and an armed strike in guerrilla areas) in the States of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Assam.
In Kolkata, a major event was held to commemorate the martyrs with a meeting and a demonstration, particularly Basavaraj (see link here, here and here ), and a similar meeting was held in Punjab (see link here).
The international campaign was a success, with demonstrations, public information and solidarity meetings with workers and students, and speeches at demonstrations in support of the Palestinian resistance.
In the Philippines,
the Communist Party of the Philippines, from the heart of the liberated
areas of Southern Tagalog, Quezon, Luzon region, and in the midst of
the ongoing People's War in the country, organized a meeting to pay
tribute to martyred comrade Basavaraj, renewing support for the People's
War in India, and for the party leading it, against Operation Kagaar.
In Italy, the campaign spreaded across seven cities, organized by the Italian section of the Committee:
In Bergamo,
a massive propaganda effort was carried out, with posters being put up
and graffiti being painted in a working-class neighborhood, and
participation and participation in a demonstration for Palestine and a
meeting.
In Taranto and Palermo,
information and support meetings for the People's War and the Communist
Party of India (Maoist) were held, attended by workers, proletarians,
and young students.
In Milan, a sit-in was organized.
In Turin, a representative of the Committee spoke at an anti-imperialist assembly, while in Ravenna they attended a demonstration in support of Palestine, and in Bologna, posters were displayed at the university.
Furthermore, the Palestinian Democratic Youth in Italy issued a statement of solidarity with the genocide taking place in Bastar (Chattisgarh), denouncing Operation Kagaar and stating: "Our struggle in Palestine against occupation and erasure is deeply connected to the struggle of the Adivasi people to protect their land, culture, and way of life. Whether in Gaza or in the forests of India, entire populations are criminalized simply for resisting domination and exploitation. We call on youth, students, and progressive forces around the world to raise their voices against these genocides, to stand in solidarity with the Adivasis, and to demand an immediate end to Operation Kagar. At the same time, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and the liberation of all oppressed peoples struggling for justice and dignity."
In Galicia (Spanish state), the comrades of the committee participated in the demonstration on the occasion of Galician Homeland Day (July 25th), organizing a stand with propaganda materials and banners, including one reading "Long Live the People's War in India."
In Colombia, the comrades of the committee conducted propaganda in support of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and against Operation Kagaar in the square, displaying a huge banner denouncing the genocide in Palestine and Operation Kagaar.
In Brazil, the comrades of The New MEPR held a month of initiatives in July, effectively preempting the campaign, protesting Modi's presence in Rio de Janeiro for the BRICS meeting, participating in demonstrations in support of Palestine, and organizing meetings. Last August, comrades participated in a large turnout at the conference "A Luta Contra o Fascismo e as Urgência da Mobilização Popular" (A Struggle Against Fascism and the Urgency of Popular Mobilization), organizing a stand with various materials, including the pamphlet translated into Portuguese by the Communist Party of India (Maoist), entitled "China: A New Social-Imperialist Power." A comrade from the Women's Revolutionary Movement presented our ongoing campaign to the audience, and speakers and participants supported the cause by raising the slogan "Stop Operation Kagar in India."
From the belly of the social-imperialist beast, the Chinese comrades drafted a declaration of solidarity with the Communist Party of India (Maoist), once again paying homage to comrade Basavaraj.
In Turkish-Syrian Kurdistan, the TKP-ML expressed solidarity with the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and commemorated comrade Basavaraj directly from the guerrilla zones.
In Tunisia, the Committee organized a meeting in support of the Palestinian Resistance and the People's War in India, denouncing the role of imperialism in Palestine and the link between Zionism and Hindutva ideology. Dozens of university students participated in the initiative. Comrades from the Patriotic Democratic Socialist Party, in support of the campaign, translated the international appeal into Arabic.
In Bangladesh, the Protest Committee Against the Genocide in India on Maoists and Adivasis, Bangladesh, organized a memorial for comrade Basavaraj and all the martyred comrades with a demonstration and a meeting.
In Greece, comrades from the KKE-ML, together with the Turkish youth organization Ageb, organized an evening of support during their camps.
Furthermore in Europe, various actions were held in Northern European countries such as Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. In Sweden, in particular, a sit-in protest was organized in front of the Indian embassy.
Other propaganda actions were also held in France, Russia, and some former Yugoslav states, such as Bosnia and Montenegro.
Meetings and demonstrations took place in Portugal, Germany, and Austria.
In North America, in the US states of Washington, California, and Oregon, comrades organized demonstrations, meetings, and propaganda graffiti.
In Mexico, in the states of Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, Mexico City, and Oaxaca, massive propaganda actions were organized, including leafleting, posters, and banners in streets, squares, and at universities, as well as meetings.
This report will be continuously updated as the campaign is intended to be prolonged, and in some countries, taking into account their specific circumstances, additional initiatives were organized in the weeks following the international week of support.
The
year-long International Prolonged Campaign, which began last April with
the week of April 7-12 and continued with this second stage, will
advance toward further stages, continuing to develop across all
continents.
The Protracted People's War
in India, led by the Communist Party of India (Maoist), remains the
spearhead of the World Proletarian Revolution despite ferocious attacks
from the repressive apparatus of the old Indian state, actively
supported by imperialism and zionism.
Just
as the Palestinian resistance, with its struggle for national
liberation, is strategic for both imperialism and the proletariat and
oppressed peoples, the ongoing revolution in India, at the heart of the
inter-imperialist contradictions in Asia/Pacific, is also of extreme
strategic importance for the proletariat and oppressed peoples.
To
support for the People's War in India and for the Communist Party of
India (Maoist) requires a quantum leap, both quantitatively and
qualitatively: the international campaign must, on the one hand, spread
to other countries, and, on the other, it must increasingly link itself
to concrete mass proletarian and popular movements as well as to the
great movement in support of Palestine in order to broaden its effects
and reach.
