STOP WAGING WAR AGAINST ADIVASI RIGHTS ACTIVISTS!

Today marks one year of the wrongful incarceration of Bastar-based Adivasi human rights defender and President of Moolwasi Bacchao Manch, Raghu Midiyami. He was arrested on 27 February 2025 by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Dantewada under FIR RC-02/2023/NIA/Raipur while he was recovering from serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Raghu had gone to Dantewada hospital for treatment when NIA officials took him into custody. At the time of his arrest, he was already in a fragile medical condition. Instead of ensuring medical care, the authorities chose to incarcerate him.

Over the past year, the state has not only pursued the NIA case but has also reportedly slapped *six additional cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against him.* The piling up of multiple UAPA cases appears to be a deliberate strategy to prolong his imprisonment and deny him bail. The clear intention is to keep him behind bars to ensure that there is no organized resistance to the corporate loot of natural resources in the Bastar region.

Raghu Midiyami, a 25-year-old popular Adivasi youth leader, has been at the forefront of peaceful, democratic mobilizations in Bastar. As part of Moolwasi Bacchao Manch—an umbrella platform formed by Adivasi peasants—he helped coordinate nearly 30 peaceful sit-in protest sites across the region. These protests raised constitutional demands, including:

• Implementation of PESA and the Fifth Schedule
• Stopping mining and displacement
• Ending fake encounters and mass killings
• Halting militarization in Adivasi areas
• Protecting Jal-Jangal-Jameen and community rights

The allegations that he received funds from Maoist organizations are being used to criminalize democratic dissent. No credible evidence has been presented in the public domain to justify his prolonged incarceration.

Custodial Medical Negligence

We express deep concern over the continued denial of proper medical treatment to Raghu. He suffered a fractured finger in the motorcycle accident prior to his arrest. Despite repeated requests, jail authorities allegedly failed to provide timely and adequate treatment. As a result, his finger has reportedly twisted permanently in the wrong direction due to medical negligence.

Arresting an injured person from a hospital and then denying him treatment for a year amounts to custodial cruelty and a violation of his fundamental rights. This raises serious questions about the accountability of jail authorities.

Criminalizing Peaceful Adivasi Assertion

The ban on Moolwasi Bacchao Manch by the Chhattisgarh government in October 2024 was followed by a wave of arrests and intimidation of its members. The targeting of Raghu Midiyami is part of a broader pattern of repression in central India, where Adivasi assertion for land, forest, and livelihood rights is systematically equated with insurgency.

We also question Senior Maoist Leader those who claim to have surrendered from armed movements and to be working within the constitutional framework remain silent when innocent Adivasi rights activists are jailed. If peaceful democratic organizing is met with bans, UAPA charges, and year-long incarceration, what space remains for constitutional dissent?

Our Demands

1. Immediate release of Raghu Midiyami.
2. Withdrawal of all fabricated cases, including the NIA case and additional UAPA charges.
3. Immediate and comprehensive medical treatment.
4. An end to the criminalization of peaceful Adivasi movements in Bastar.

One year of incarceration without justice is one year too many. The continued imprisonment of Raghu Midiyami reflects the shrinking democratic space and the deepening repression faced by Adivasi communities resisting displacement and exploitation.

We call upon all democratic and progressive forces across the country to unite in demanding justice, accountability, and the immediate release of Raghu Midiyami.

  Tal vez, varios de nuestros lectores habrán escuchado en algún momento sobre la Guerra Popular en la India y claro, sería normal que sobre todo en Colombia, cuando se menciona «guerra» se relacione, o con guerras criminales y asesinas que impulsan los países imperialistas, o con las guerras que estamos acostumbrados a ver, encabezadas por grupos como el ELN o las FARC que desde hace décadas se dedicaron a conquistar territorios y controlar el asqueroso negocio del narcotráfico bajo un falso discurso de trabajo con y por el pueblo. En realidad, la población ha sido víctima de sus tropelías por la plusvalía que dejan los psicotrópicos.

  Lo primero que hay que decir es que la Guerra Popular en la India, no tiene punto de comparación en ese terreno, pues en ese «lejano»  país de más de 1500 millones de habitantes, la lucha que se está librando se caracteriza por ser un movimiento protagonizado por campesinos, comunidades indígenas, clase obrera e intelectuales revolucionarios; un gran movimiento de decenas de miles de hombres y mujeres que vienen desarrollado desde 1967, una lucha armada caracterizada por el armamento general del pueblo, dirigidos por el Partido Comunista de la India (Maoísta) y construyendo diversas formas de organización donde las masas participan activamente como el Ejército, los Comités Populares, las organizaciones de mujeres, de la juventud, etc.

  Todo este trabajo les ha permitido conquistar zonas controladas y gobernadas por organizaciones del pueblo armado, donde las autoridades del Estado indio no tienen absolutamente ningún poder y donde toda la vida económica y social está dirigida por los órganos de poder popular. No en vano, la Guerra Popular (GP) y el Partido que la orienta, se han convertido en el enemigo número uno de las fuerzas reaccionarias no solo de la India sino de los imperialistas que tienen predominio en ese país.

  Con sevicia el primer ministro de la India, Narendra Modi, ha encabezado en varias ocasiones campañas de cerco y aniquilamiento con el propósito de acabar con la GP, campañas en las cuales se ensaña brutalmente contra las comunidades con el pretexto de estar atacando a los militantes del PCI (Maoísta), al Ejército Guerrillero Popular de Liberación (EGPL) y a todas las formas de organización de masas que se han construido en esa formación del nuevo poder.

Nepal: Supreme Court Orders The Release Of CPN (Majority) GS Dharmendra Bastola - good news - maximum support the belections' boykott!

Kathmandu, February 26, 2026: The Supreme Court has issued a habeas corpus order for the release of Communist Party of Nepal (Majority) General Secretary Dharmendra Bastola “Kanchan”. A joint bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Nityananda Pandey issued the order on Wednesday.

Bastola had been arrested by the police on charges of being involved in activities aimed at boycotting the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

Following the arrest of Bastola, Sabitri Kumari Oli filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court, naming as defendants the chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku; the chief of the District Police Range, Kathmandu; the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office; the District Police Range, Kathmandu; the District Administration Office, Kathmandu; and its chief district officer.

Acting on the petition, the court ordered the release of Bastola.

In the morning of February 28, “Israeli” airstrikes hit military targets and civilian areas of Tehran, destroying infrastructure and injuring civilians. This was then followed by more airstrikes in the regions of Qom, Khorammabad, Esfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan, and Karaj. Iranian news agencies also experienced massive cyber attacks. US news reported that dozens of strikes by US aircraft were carried out from bases around West Asia and from an aircraft carrier. Iran launched a counter-attack of missiles against the Zionist entity as well as US bases in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, naming the operation “True Promise 4” after the previous 3 missile operations it launched against the entity since the launching of the Palestinian Al Aqsa Flood operation. Des fortes explosions ont été entendues samedi matin à Jérusalem peu après que des sirènes d’alerte antiaérienne ont retenti au-dessus de la ville, ont rapporté des journalistes de l’AFP.

L’armée israélienne a annoncé avoir identifié des missiles lancés d’Iran vers Israël et appelé la population à aller aux abris.

Les sirènes ont retenti à plusieurs reprises à Jérusalem, à quelques minutes d’intervalle. L’armée israélienne avait annoncé un peu plus tôt avoir détecté des tirs de missiles d’Iran en direction d’Israël.

Le Magen David Adom, l’équivalent en Israël de la Croix-Rouge, a déclaré ne pas avoir reçu d’information faisant état de missiles ayant atteint leur cible. « Des équipes ont été dépêchées pour soigner plusieurs personnes blessées alors qu’elles rejoignaient des abris, ainsi que des personnes soufrant d’anxiété », a déclaré le MDA dans un communiqué.

La mairie de Jérusalem a annoncé que tous les abris publics de la ville étaient ouverts et que les écoles, lieux de travail et de rassemblement resteraient fermés jusqu’à 18 heures GMT lundi.

CRPF-led “KGH-2” targets top CPI (Maoist) leadership as government pushes to end left-wing extremism by March 2026

Around 2,000 security personnel, led by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), launched an operation on Tuesday (February 17, 2026) along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border to track down senior Maoist commanders, a senior CRPF official said on Wednesday (February 18, 2026).

The operation, codenamed “KGH-2”, is underway in the Nambi and Korgotalu Hills region and forms part of the Union Government’s declared objective of eradicating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) from the country by March 2026.According to the official, the number of politburo and central committee members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist)—the highest decision-making body—has come down to four from 20 in January 2025.

Security forces are searching for four senior leaders: Ganapati, Devuji, Malla Raja Reddy and Misir Besra. In the ongoing operation, security personnel are looking for central committee member Devji alias Chetan and junior cadre Kesa Sodhi, the official said.

The CRPF is the lead force in implementing government schemes in Maoist-affected areas. Recently, the Chhattisgarh Government designated CRPF company locations in interior areas as “Integrated Centres” for implementing the “Niyad Nellanar Yojna”, a multi-dimensional developmental initiative.According to the CRPF, the number of districts categorised as Maoist-affected declined from 18 at the beginning of 2025 to eight by year-end.

The paramilitary force said targeting Maoist leadership is part of its broader combat strategy aimed at weakening the organisation’s operational capabilities. In 2025, 12 senior Maoist leaders were neutralised, and five others surrendered amid intensified operations. 

In all, 370 Maoists were killed in operations conducted by the CRPF, 1,175 ultras or their sympathisers were apprehended, and 2,391 extremists surrendered.

“As part of the combat strategy, CRPF has identified the strongholds of Maoists, and it was decided to establish launch pads/FOBs with the intention to disrupt supply chains and the launching of operations. In 2025, 61 forward operating bases were established in core areas, including 32 in Chhattisgarh, 9 in Jharkhand, 4 in Odisha, 4 in Maharashtra, 11 in Madhya Pradesh and one in Telangana,” CRPF said.

Néanmoins, même à la botte, elle dérange, d’où le « Conseil de la Paix » de Trump qui, au-delà de la question palestinienne, a vocation, pour les dirigeants US, à se substituer à elle. Ce conseil a été légitimé… par un vote du Conseil de Sécurité de l’ONU où de sont abstenus la Russie et la Chine.

Donc clairement, l’ONU ne peut entraver les projets de l’impérialisme dominant ni son soutien, pas plus que celui de ses vassaux, à l’entité sioniste, prolongement organique de l’impérialisme occidental. Pourtant, quelques figures d’employés de l’ONU sont des gêneurs que l’impérialisme occidental veut écarter. Francesca Albanes est au premier rang de ces gêneurs. Et, en ce moment, l’État impérialiste français met les bouchées doubles pour empêcher les expressions de solidarité avec la Palestine occupée et colonisée qui combat en faveurs sa libération nationale.

UN Experts Raise Alarm: JSW Steel Project in Odisha Under Global Human Rights Scrutiny

In a significant intervention that underscores the growing global concern over corporate-led resource extraction in India, a group of United Nations Special Rapporteurs has issued a strongly worded communication to JSW Steel Ltd., flagging serious allegations of human rights violations linked to its proposed integrated steel plant in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

The letter dated 17 November 2025, sent under the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Procedures, points to potential violations affecting over 30,000 people—primarily Adivasis, forest dwellers, Dalits, and fishing communities—whose lives and livelihoods are deeply intertwined with the region’s fragile coastal ecology. At stake are not only rights to food, water, health, and a clean environment, but also cultural survival and democratic participation.

Raising concerns over forced displacement, denial of forest rights, and the erosion of free, prior and informed consent, the UN experts warn that the project risks repeating the unresolved injustices that led to the withdrawal of POSCO from the same site in 2017.

We are independent human rights experts appointed and mandated by the United Nations Human Rights Council to report and advise on human rights issues from a thematic or country-specific perspective. We are part of the special procedures system of the United Nations, which has 59 thematic and country mandates on a broad range of human rights issues. We are sending this letter under the communications procedure of the Special Procedures of the United Nations Human Rights Council to seek clarification on information we have received. Special Procedures mechanisms can intervene directly with Governments and other stakeholders (including companies) on allegations of abuses of human rights that come within their mandates by means of letters, which include urgent appeals, allegation letters, and other communications. The intervention may relate to a human rights violation that has already occurred, is ongoing, or which has a high risk of occurring. The process involves sending a letter to the concerned actors identifying the facts of the allegation, applicable international human rights norms and standards, the concerns and questions of the mandate- holder(s), and a request for follow-up action. Communications may deal with individual cases, general patterns and trends of human rights violations, cases affecting a particular group or community, or the content of draft or existing legislation, policy or practice considered not to be fully compatible with international human rights standards.

In this connection, we would like to bring to the attention of your company information we have received regarding alleged violations of the rights of rural, forest- dwelling communities and Indigenous Peoples in Erasama Tehsil, Jagatsinghpur District, Odisha, India, whose lives and livelihoods are reportedly threatened by the proposed integrated steel plant project of a subsidiary of the company led by you, M/s JSW Utkal Steel Ltd. (JUSL). These allegations concern violations of the rights to food, water, health, a clean sustainable environment, and cultural rights.

The Special Procedures mandate holders have previously issued two communication letters (JAL IND 1/2018 and JAL 7/2013) when the project in question was being undertaken by the POSCO Group, raising allegations of forced evictions, displacement, and intimidation of local communities. While we acknowledge that JUSL became involved in the project only after POSCO’s withdrawal in 2017, the core concerns affecting affected communities remain unchanged. This letter therefore serves as a follow-up to those previous communication letters.

According to the information received:

The JUSL project involves the establishment of an integrated steel plant and captive coal power plant in Paradeep, Jagatsinghpur District, Odisha. The project was initially proposed in 2005 by the South Korean steelmaker POSCO, which had sought to build a steel plant in the same area. Following sustained and peaceful opposition from local communities, POSCO withdrew from the project in 2017.

Following the withdrawal, the Government of Odisha transferred the land to JSW Group for the development of a new steel industrial complex. The project reportedly requires approximately 3,700 acres of land, including 2,677.80 acres of forest land and 272.51 acres of non-forest land, as well as an additional 25 acres for a rehabilitation colony and 500 acres for a township for company officials.

The affected population includes Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (OTFDs) who hold customary rights over forest land under the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006. The OTFD population from surrounding panchayats is estimated at 18,000 individuals. Approximately 28 families from the Santhal tribal community also reside in the area.

In addition, Dalit communities including Keuta, Pana, Dama, Bauri, Kandara and Domb comprise approximately 12,000 individuals. The majority of residents across the three affected panchayats reportedly belong to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Dalit communities. In total, it is estimated that over 30,000 people are at risk of forced eviction, denial of forest rights, and loss of livelihoods as a result of the project. The directly impacted villages reportedly include Dhinkia Gram Panchayat (Dhinkia, Gobindapur, Mahala, Patana, Trilochanapur), Nuagaon Gram Panchayat (Nuagaon), and Gada Kujanga Gram Panchayat (Gada Kujanga, Nolia Sahi, Polanga, Bhunyapala, Bayanala Kandha). Indirectly affected villages include Bamadeipur and Balei Gram Panchayats. The project’s implementation would reportedly displace entire families dependent on agricultural and forest lands for survival.

The forests in the region provide crucial livelihood resources such as fuelwood, wild vegetables, housing materials, berries, tubers, medicinal plants, pandanus flowers, and green leafy vegetables. Families also cultivate fruits and vegetables on these lands.

Fisheries represent another cornerstone of the local economy. Fishing in the Bay of Bengal and the Jatadhar River sustains approximately 20,000-25,000 fishermen. Women from fishing communities supplement household incomes by processing and selling dried and salted fish (mina). Some families also engage in animal husbandry, contributing to both income generation and food security. Collectively, these activities form a diverse and sustainable livelihood base now directly threatened by the proposed industrial development.

According to a 2022 briefing by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), emissions from the proposed steel plant are expected to exceed the limits established by the World Health Organization (WHO). Pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and sulphur dioxide could lead to premature deaths, asthma-related emergencies, and preterm births, placing local communities at high risk of respiratory, cardiovascular, and skin diseases.1

The project’s reliance on freshwater sources raises further concerns about potential water contamination from industrial waste, leading to gastrointestinal and related illnesses.
