The
International League of Peoples’ Struggle firmly stands with the Indian
people protesting against the US-backed Hindutva fascist Modi regime
that is currently implicated in election stealing. ILPS calls for
solidarity with the protesters and journalists violently manhandled and
temporarily detained due to their righteous struggle for democracy, and
urges international vigilance against the ever-heightening repression
against the people. These protests have risen due to the revelation that
millions of votes in India, including oppressed groups such Muslims,
have been deleted from voter lists due to Chief Election Commissioner
Gyanesh Kumar’s collusion with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
-- resulting in widespread demands for his resignation. Following
the large-scale youth protests this past July and August 2026 amidst
the crisis of youth unemployment and a neoliberal education system that
resulted in the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan,
these series of demonstrations have invigorated the broad masses to rise
up at a level not seen since the 2019 anti-communal protests against
the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens
(CAA-NRC). Much like the last protests, the broad youth movement under
the banner of the Cockroach Janta Party and leftist youth mass
organizations are the forefront -- such as All India Students’
Federation, Students’ Federation of India, All India Students’
Association, Disha Students’ Organisation, and Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta
Manch. This time, they are now enjoined by trade and farmers’ unions
along with the bourgeois opposition India National Developmental
Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) electoral bloc. As
fascist Hindutva forces such as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)
and their electoral party, the BJP, have risen to power through
political violence against Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities as
well as through politicking via local alliances, its power can no longer
be maintained as the crisis within the Indian society deepens. Being in
power since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his right-hand Home
Minister Amit Shah has promised to make India a superpower, but have
only deepened its semi-feudal, semi-colonial character. Real wages for
workers have fallen below 2014 levels, peasants are beset with high debt
and incoming US agricultural dumping, and unemployment or
underemployment affects all strata of democratic classes within India.
The crisis has nowhere to go but directly onto the masses, who have
progressively intensified their discontent up until this boiling point.
Just as their rise to power used liberal democracy as a smokescreen for
their violence, they have used the guise of liberal democracy to hide
their desperate vote stealing. It attempts to castigate these protests
as led by Muslims or sponsored by Pakistan to appeal to its fascist mass
base, while in reality it cannot hide its continued assault on
democracy anymore to anyone. As
the Modi regime arrested and temporarily detained over 5,000 people on
October 10, 2026 in Delhi alone -- with the police manhandling and
sexually harassing female protesters, targeting journalists who aim to
cover the truth on the ground, and jailing two of the Cockroach Janta
Party's spokespeople -- it is clear that the BJP and RSS continue to
lose their legitimacy day-by-day and that more of the people see that
fundamental change is needed in India. As the protests have reached tens
of thousands mobilized to places in New Delhi like Connaught Place and
Jantar Mantar as well as thousands more across the country, the League
resolutely supports this mass uprising. It is a building block whose
opportunity must be seized to build a much-needed mass movement united
beyond communal, national, or caste lines in India to definitively smash
imperialism and all reaction once and for all. Signed, International League of Peoples' Struggle |
