May 1st – Internationalist and Proletarian Day of Struggle

Workers, toilers,

This May Day on an international scale is, first and foremost, a great day of struggle.

In many capitalist and imperialist countries around the world, and in countries oppressed by imperialism, millions of workers are taking the streets and marching, from India to European capitals -Paris, Berlin, London etc.- from Latin America to Turkey, the Middle East, and the United States.

They are united by a single interest: to declare loudly: no more war, no more bosses' governments, no more exploitation, poverty and oppression, no more fascist regimes, no more genocides, especially against the Palestinian people.

Proletarians and masses throughout the world have the right to rebel and demand a better world.

Proletarians and the masses of the world have to look at what unites them, not what divides them: Unity is strength! Division benefits the masters.

On the international level, this unity is called Proletarian Internationalism.

May 1st is a proletarian and internationalist day!

The ruling classes of every country are showing their worst side, embodied by Trump, Netanyahu, Modi, but also by Putin, Xi Jinping, Macron, Erdogan and in Italy by Meloni.

The governments led by these people are dragging us into a new global carnage. What we see every day, in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and Ukraine.

With the world in the hands of this class and these governments, that is not the worst yet.

Therefore it is right to fight worldwide to stop and overthrow them.

All this, without the working class and workers, and their autonomous, organized trade union and political movement, is not possible. Only the united workers of the world can unite all exploited and oppressed classes and build the movement that abolishes the existing state of affairs.

On this May 1st, understanding this is the key. It is the basis to build material strength, the Workers' Party, the united proletarian and popular front, the proletarian army capable of fighting, resisting, and winning, building in every country a new government, a new state, a new system without wars, fascism, exploitation, and oppression, with power in the hands of the workers and the masses.

In Italy, the situation of the proletariat and the popular masses, whatever the Meloni government, the state, institutions, press, and TV say, is worsening, not improving; in factories and workplaces, people are either laid off, have precarious contracts, or are unemployed, and when they work, the wage is never enough to cover the high cost of living; young people are either unemployed or have underpaid jobs, healthcare is expensive, housing is expensive, schools are expensive, and transportation is expensive.

The masters and the rich, on the other hand, maintain and increase their profits, becoming ever more scandalously rich through finance and, today, through weapons production, the energy crisis and financial speculation, etc.

In factories, and in many workplaces, not only those who work are increasingly exploited but, above all, often they die from work, precarious employment, and pollution.

In light of all this, the government defends the masters' exclusive interests, and to prevent struggles, rebellions, dissent and protests, transforms this country into a "police state." The security they claim to defend is that of the bosses, the rich, and the upper, middle, and petty bourgeoisie who want to be well off, while workers, young people, precarious workers, immigrants, and the poor masses must be worse off, crushed and repressed, if they rebel and fight.

Many young people have taken the streets for Palestine, against class-based education, against war and rearmament, with combative demonstrations, blockades, occupations, and rejected the attacks on the Constitution and democratic rights, contributing to the "No" victory in the referendum.

But this government has no intention of retreating.

Every day, even on April 25th, it takes further steps toward a modern fascism, attacking the Constitution born of the Resistance, keeping corrupt, fascist, and racist figures in government, controlling the press and TV, imposing a justice system only for the bosses, the rich, and their elite.

On May 1st, almost as a mockery and provocation, the Meloni government passed another decree "on work" which for workers at most will provide a few more "bonuses" or welfare benefits, but rejects any real wage increase; instead, it offers employers further tax breaks or incentives to hire young people and women on precarious contracts. The government is moving toward a war economy to unload on the costs of war intervention and increased military spending on the proletariat and the masses, while the war industries make enormous profits from the massacres of peoples.

Therefore, it is up to workers to raise their heads, fight, and offer a class reference point to all those who fight. We need a class-based, mass union in the hands of workers, not union bureaucracies.

We need a general strike that paralyzes the country, brings down this government, and remains in power against all masters' governments, with no confidence in the parliamentary opposition that was in power and, beyond words, does not truly oppose the war, rearmament, repression, security decrees, the genocide of the Palestinian people, much less attacks on wages, employment, health, working conditions, and the slavery of migrants.

On May 1st, we don't need concerts; we need struggle, class consciousness, and organization.
