Several Workers Murdered in General Strike in Kenya

Today a general strike in Kenya takes place, protesting mainly against the increasing fuel prices which are affecting the Kenyan people. Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority last week raised retail fuel prices ​by as much as 23.5% – ‌after hiking them by 24.2% last month. Today morning, roads into the capital Nairobi were blocked by striking transport workers, and in Mombasa, Kenya’s main port city, the strike raised concerns about supply-chain delays.

The general strike is underway across the major cities of Kenya. The Kenyan masses have taken to the streets and they are confronting the State and showing that they won’t retreat.

Kenya: Five Students On Trial After Protesting Against the Africa-France Summit

Today, the first audience of the trial against five students who joined the protests against the French imperialism summit organized in Nairobi, takes place. The students protested in the University of Nairobi and they are members of the Revolutionary Students Commission, and also of the Communist Party Marxist of Kenya (CPM-K). One of the students charged is the chairperson of the student organization, Samuel Jobunga. The CPM-K has called to express solidarity.

The General Secretary of the CPM-K, Booker Ngesa Omole, has condemned this trial as part of the criminalization by the State against those oppose imperialism. He explains that the charges are fabricated.

The prosecution and the investigating officer did not appear in court to defend their case today.
