India - Four arrested including RPF leader

Muvattupuzha: The leader of Revolutionary People’s Front in Andhra Pradesh, Ajayakumar (49) from Mannur, alias Mannur Ajayan, has been arrested by the police for his alleged links with Maoists. Three activists of ‘Porattam’ group were also detained for distributing pamphlets containing Maoist ideologies. The printing press in Mananthavadi, which had reportedly printed the Maoist posters has been shut down. Gun totting men who were found searching for food close to reserved forest areas in Malappuram district in the wee hours of Monday are presumed to be Maoists.
The commando division of Kerala police, ‘Thunderbolt’ continues its combing operations in the forest areas of Palakkad and Kannur. Ajayakumar was arrested from his house in Muvattupuzha in connection with cases registered against him at Mavelikkara Police station. A 20-member police team led by Chengannur DySP Baby Charles arrested him in the morning Monday. Charges levelled against Ajayakuamar included clandestine meetings of Maoist sympathisers, conspiracy, unlawful activities, among others.
According to police Ajayakuamr is an accused in cases including Nainankonam land agitation, holding Palakkad Collector in captivity, etc. Ajayakumar, however did not offer any resistance during the arrest. An RPF manifesto, pamphlets, books, posters etc. were recovered from Ajayakumar’s house in the raid. Five RPF activists were arrested from Mavelikkara in December 29 last year over a secret meeting, which was reportedly held as per the instructions given by Ajayakumar.
