Naxals kill villager in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Naxals today killed a villager suspecting him of being a
police informer in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, police said. The
body of 27-year-old Budhram Salaam was found near his native Remawand
village under Narayanpur police station limits this morning, Station
House Officer Amar Singh Komre told PTI.As per the villagers, a group of
Maoists stormed into Budhram’s house last night and dragged him away
from the village. His body was spotted by the locals outside the village
in the morning following which they informed police.
A police team rushed to the spot and the body was sent for
postmortem, Komre said. “Prima facie it appears that he was strangulated
to death,” the SHO said, adding that a Naxal pamphlet branding him a
police informer was found near the body.

Maoist activities in Kerala on rise
An alarming increase in the activity of Naxals has been detected by
security agencies recently in Kerala where the Left Wing Extremists have
started perpetrating violent acts by espousing the cause of tribals.
Officials said security agencies have found that the Western Ghats
Special Zonal Committee of the CPI (Maoist) have launched a “series of
actions” in the southern state, begining with vandalising forest
department establishments in Wayanad and Palakkad districts recently.
There are ten identified Naxal violence-affected states like
Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and Maharashtra. “The red
extremists are raising issues of alleged environmental pollution due to
mining and other quarrying activities and the high-handedness of police
and forest department officials which leads to the dispalcement of
tribals from these areas. They are trying to take up cudgels on behalf
of tribals and their rights,” they said. They said these developments
are alarming as “Kerala has never seen such incidents occuring with so
much stead in the recent past.” There had been some reports of Naxal
activities in the state in the period between 1960-70s.
The agencies have specifically found that the Maoists, through their
local communication channels, are trying to highlight the alleged
“misreable” condition of the tribals of Manjeeri area of Malappuram
district. “They are spreading the message that the tribals’ plight in
the state and in these specific areas is because of the indifference of
forest and tribal welfare departments and alleged inaction by the state
police,” they said. The agencies have informed the security
establishment that Maoists have raised an armed squad in Malappuram
district to unleash violence against state government officials and
police.

In redrawing Red Corridor, Centre faces a few red flags
The NDA government is set to redraw the Naxal corridor in the country
— striking off several existing districts from the list and adding new
ones based on their “potential of becoming a new hub for Maoists”.
Sources said nine districts in the Tamil Nadu-Kerala-Karnataka
trijunction, one in Bihar, and two in Orissa would be added to the list
of districts affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). The Ministry of Home
Affairs (MHA) will soon circulate a cabinet note to redraw the Red
Corridor since the move also has financial implications. The new
additions would be Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur in Kerala, Mysore,
Kodagu, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Shimoga in Karnataka, Erode in Tamil
Nadu, Saran in Bihar, and Boudh and Sonepur districts in Orissa.

Two districts in Tamil Nadu have Maoist camps
Chennai,Dec 26 (TruthDive):Maoists’ presence in three Southern States
has been confirmed by Union Home Ministry. Tamil Nadu’s Erode and
Nilgiri districts are said to be hotspots of Maoist presence and reports
say recruitment to these groups is growing from urban areas of Tamil
Nadu.
