India maoist bandh in Magadh

GAYA: The 24 hour long bandh call given by the Maoists to register protest against alleged police excesses evoked limited response in Magadh division. The bandh impact was felt in Dumaria, Imamganj, Banke Bazar and Raushanganj police station areas of Gaya district and part of Madanpur, Deo and some other areas of Aurngabad district, say reports reaching the divisional head quarters. Life came to a near standstill in the Dumaria, Imamganj, Banke Bazar and Raushanganj police station area of Gaya district as roads including the state highway wore deserted look and shops, schools, offices and nationalised bank branches too remained closed.

Traffic on the always busy GT Road, the national highway criss crossing some of the worst affected naxal belts was less than normal. Elsewhere in the extra large division comprising five districts, life was near normal. According to Magadh Range DIG Ratn Sanjay, no report of any untoward incident has been received from anywhere in the Magadh police range. Six persons including Vijay Paswan, a Maoist have been arrested from two different places in the Aurangabad district but the arrests have nothing to do with the Maoist bandh and were made during the ongoing anti naxal operation.
