Maoists attack Chhattisgarh Armed Forces camp, kill jawan
Maoists attacked a Chhattisgarh Armed Forces camp on Thursday and at
least one jawan was killed in the attack. The attack took place in the
Narayanpur district, according to ANI news agency. This is the latest in
a spate of Naxal attacks in Chhattisgarh, with 411 attacks recorded
till November.
The annual People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week observed by
the banned CPI(Maoist) from December 2, in the
Visakha Agency...Violence was expected during the PLGA week as the
protest against bauxite mining plans of the government went up manifold
after the GO 97 was issued on November 5 and the Maoists, looking for a
chance to regain their hold over the Girijans, extended their support to
the agitation in the Agency area.
The Maoists are trying to regain their hold over Visakha Agency..which helps
them consolidate and become strong. ... Maoists also
announced that anti- bauxite agitation would be main issue during this
year’s PLGA week.
..... Maoists have reportedly conducted meetings in the interior
areas and in the Andhra-Odisha border area but no activity was seen in
the major villages or mandal headquarters.
Reds continue poster war in Giridih villages
Dhanbad: The CPI(Maoist) continued with its poster war against
panchayati raj in the rural pockets of Pirtand and Dumri blocks of
Giridih district despite the state police launching anti-Maoist
operations in many districts. Three Maoist-hit blocks of the district,
including Pirtand, Dumri and Bagodar will vote in the fourth and last
phase of the panchayat election on December 12. Apart from protesting
against the ongoing anti-Maoist operations, Maoists have asked villagers
to stay away from polling. A number of posters and pamphlets were seen
in the remote villages of Pirtand and Dumri blocks in the past week.
They have also reportedly recruited a large number of Girijans from
Visakha Agency and other States like Chattisgarh and Odisha during the
week. Here they completed the task set for the week: swelling the cadres
by making fresh recruitment which they have not been able to do during
the last few years which resulted in dwindling of local cadres in their
armed squads. But keeping quiet during the PLGA week might be a strategy
to come out with a strong move later. While top leaders of the area
like Ravi, Azad and Chalapathi are reportedly conducting operations, the
party’s central committee believed to have met in Chattisgarh and
discussed the bauxite issue.
Koraput:
Prior to the commencement of the PLGA week, the Maoists had put on
posters and banners at several areas in Malkangiri and Rayagada
districts urging locals for cooperation. Fearing Maoist attacks, buses
stayed off roads in Malkangiri district and some parts of Koraput
district. Markets in Malkangiri district wore a deserted look while
offices and schools recorded thin attendance. “Commuters had a harrowing
time as bus services were cancelled. Patients were the worst
sufferers,” said a resident at Kalimela. In Koraput district, combing
operation was intensified in Narayanpata, Pottangi and Lamataput blocks
following intelligence reports that the Maoists were planning some major
offensives. The CPI (Maoist) had been observing the PLGA week in memory
of their martyrs Nalla Adireddy alias Syam, Murali and Naresh, killed
in an encounter at Koyyuru in Karimnagar in 2000.
