Our reasons for not signing the 1st of May MLM Joint Declaration 2019
Dear comrades,
Thank you for sending us the proposal for a joint 1st of may statement of the
MLM parties and our organization discussed your 2nd draft. We think that the
proposal catches the situation, the contradictions and the tasks for today in a
right way.But as for us NOT signing the paper there are two reasons:
1. We do not hold up the validity of the concept of protracted peoples war as a universal strategy (especially in regards to imperialist countries like Austria). Of course, we do believe in the violent overthrow of bourgeois state and the necessity of proletarian militias under the leadership of a mlm, revolutionary communist party. However, we think that a civil war/ people’s war within an imperialist country like Austria will probably follow a successful seizure of power within the power centers by means of proletarian revolution.
2. As a minor point: We think, that the signing organizations rightfully capture the role and the significance of the Third International and it´s role for todays struggles. But we do not agree with your assessment, that it “treated and solved all the problems of tactics and strategy necessary for the victory of [the] proletariat in the imperialist countries as well as in the countries oppressed by imperialism”. It is true, that the Comintern analyzed and drafted a military-political line based on the specific conditions of each country, or therefor types. But the experiences of anti-colonial struggle, the socialist construction in China, the emergence of revisionism and the restauration of capitalism, the people’s wars in Peru and Nepal, the lessons of party-building within imperialist centers and many other developments after 1943 have certainly supplemented the experience of the international proletariat and the oppressed peoples.
These developments together with the intensifying contradictions within the capitalist-imperialist world system need to be evaluated in a scientific way according to the specific situation of each county rather than dogmatism or liquidationism. That’s why we think, that the idea of ideological discussion is justified and if possible, would follow these developments.
“You can’t solve a problem? Well, get down and investigate the present
facts and its past history! When you have investigated the problem thoroughly,
you will know how to solve it. Conclusions invariably come after investigation,
and not before.” (Mao Zedong, Oppose Book Worship)
Long live international solidarity!
