“We believe that the democratic revolution can achieve success only through armed struggle, that is, through people's war.”
— Comrade Charu Majumdar
Struggling Masses,
Comrade Moniruzzaman Tara was martyred on May 22, 1974. The state forces of the then-autocrat Sheikh Mujib detained Moniruzzaman Tara along with several other comrades from Dhaka. Even in the face of brutal torture and oppression, when Comrade Tara remained steadfast on the revolutionary path, the state forces murdered him and left his body behind in Sirajganj.
Comrade Tara was a great revolutionary. From his student days, he was associated with the Communist Party of East Bengal (Marxist-Leninist). Inspired by the Naxalbari peasant uprising and the teachings of Comrade Charu Majumdar, he developed agrarian revolutionary struggle in various regions, including Sirajganj and Pabna. Remaining unwavering on the line of protracted people's war under the party's leadership, he fought against all forms of opportunism and revisionism. As a revolutionary leader of the people, he advanced the people's democratic revolution of East Bengal through the area-wise seizure of power. Terrified, the ruling-exploiting class murdered our beloved leader and the then-General Secretary of the Communist Party of East Bengal (M-L), Comrade Moniruzzaman Tara, in order to destroy the revolution and the revolutionaries. But they do not know that revolution cannot be destroyed by the death of revolutionaries. The masses will inevitably avenge the murders of thousands of comrades, including Comrade Tara, Badal Dutta, Beli, Mofakhkhar Chowdhury, Kamrul Master, Dr. Mizanur Rahman Tutu, and Tapan Mahmud. Armed with the ideology of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, the struggle to establish a people's democratic state— centered on agrarian revolutionary politics by encircling the cities through the process of building bases in rural areas— will inevitably achieve victory.
At present, too, the working class, peasantry, and toiling masses in East Bengal, as well as across this country, are living lives of extreme helplessness. On one hand, the peasants have no land; and there are no fair prices for the crops produced by taking loans from NGOs and usurers. Fertilizers and pesticides remain captive in the hands of multinational corporations. Villages are ruled by leaseholders, usurers, labor-traffickers, and middlemen. On the other hand, there is no work for the workers in the cities— the moment they speak up for fair wages and rights, they face attacks from the owners' goon squads alongside the police and army. This is compounded by the ongoing oppression of women workers, women, and children. In this country, there is no guarantee of healthcare, education, or housing for the poor, while commodity prices are skyrocketing. On the other hand, backed by their foreign masters— including US imperialism and Indian expansionism— the ruling-exploiting class changes regimes through electoral dramas or by co-opting the legitimate anger of the masses through so-called urban uprisings. Therefore, there is no liberation for the masses in elections, reforms, or urban uprisings. The masses have previously witnessed the fascist rule of the Awami Grand Alliance, as well as the rule of the people's enemies, the BNP-Jamaat; similarly, they recognize religious fundamentalism, communalism, and the NGO-civil society elements. Various revisionist parties operating under the name of 'Leftists' are merely the handmaidens of the bureaucratic-comprador capitalist and semi-feudal class. The people worldwide are also victims of this capitalist-imperialist aggression and inter-imperialist contradictions. Even amidst situations like the unjust US-Israeli war in Iran, the massacres in Palestine, and the Ukraine-Russia war, Maoist revolutionaries are fighting across the world, including in India, the Philippines, and Turkey.
Through his self-sacrifice, Comrade Moniruzzaman Tara taught us that the oppressed masses, including workers and peasants, must be inspired by the politics of seizing power to eliminate class enemies through guerrilla warfare from rural areas. By developing guerrilla forces of landless-poor peasants under the leadership of the working class, liberated zones must be established. The political, social, economic, and cultural power of the class enemies must be overthrown. There is no liberation for the masses without protracted people's war— that is, armed struggle.
Therefore, come, let us learn from the self-sacrifice of martyred Comrade Moniruzzaman Tara and all other martyrs, uphold the red flag of revolution, and establish a People's Democratic East Bengal oriented toward Communism and Socialism!
Red Salute to Comrade Moniruzzaman Tara!
Long Live the Agrarian Revolution of East Bengal!
Long Live Marxism-Leninism-Maoism!
Long Live the Teachings of Comrade Charu Majumdar!
