The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) denounced the Israeli
government for the relentless campaign of air strikes that has killed at
least 91 Palestinians and wounded close to 650 people, mostly
civilians. Israel has launched more than 300 strikes a day since
Tuesday.
“The CPP supports the demand of peace-loving peoples around the world for Israel to put an immediate stop to its bombing campaign against the Palestinian residents of Gaza City,” the CPP said.
News reports indicate that among the dead are 22 children, including an 18-month old baby, and an 80-year old woman. The missiles being launched by the Israeli forces against the densely populated Gaza City have destroyed civilian infrastructure, including water systems and a refugee center.
Palestinian forces have launched largely ineffectual counter-attacks against Israel, causing minimal damage and zero deaths.
Previously occupied by Israel from 1967, Gaza City has been under Palestinian rule since 1993. For several years, Israel has maintained an economic blockade against Gaza City and attempted to reconquer it by ground invasion in December 2008. In October 2012, Israeli forces launched a similar bombing campaign and massed up 30,000 troops along the border.
The Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the mobilization of 40,000 reservists and threatened to invade Gaza.
The CPP denounces Israeli plans to invade Gaza and calls for an immediate cessation of air strikes and a stop to the systematic targeting of civilian infrastructure and populated communities.
The CPP supports the Palestinian people in their firm and collective stand to resist any plans by the Israeli government to invade, occupy and impose its rule on Gaza City. The CPP also supports the Israeli people who oppose the policy of the Netanyahu regime to drive away the Palestinian people from their homeland.
The CPP denounces the hypocrisy of the US imperialists in offering to broker negotiations when in the first place it is culpable for the colonization and war crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people. For over half a century, Israel has been the biggest recipient of US military aid. The US provided Israel with $3.1 billion in military aid last 2013.
