Report by Rajeev Lochan Rathan, Gajapati: Against fabricated cases and fake encountered on five Tribal and Dalit youths by police at Bhaliaguda under Mohana Police Station in Gajapati district at the border of Kandhamal district on 14th November 2012. Various democratic and mass organizations peace protest at Master Canteen, Bhubaneswar on today. The deceased youths were belongs to poor Adivasi and Dalit families from different places in Kandhamal. Ayub Pradra of Bujuli, Syamson Majhi of Bhinguruguda, Bhasiram Bagsingh of Mardipanka village under Brahmunigam PS were known to be socially active persons, have been working for the rights of fellow villagers on issues of Forest Rights, MGNREGA, RTI and were never involved in any underground activities.
Other two were Sanatan Mallick of Gaheju and Lakshmikanta Nayak of Tikabali village in Kandhamal district, Rights Activist Narendra Mohanty said. It is known to us that my husband and the other deceased persons were summoned by the Maoists to Bhaliaguda to face the “Praja Court” (People’s Court).Three person had reached the Maoist camp via Mohana. After given their reply and returning while shot dead by the SOG and Police. Several civil rights groups and peoples forums were visited the area and collected facts have clearly proved that there were neither any cross fair nor the dead were had any weapons with them, Ranjita Patamajhi, a victim’s wife said.
At least fifty people were killed in “Encounter” during last seven years by the police and most of them were found to be poor dalit & tribals without any arms and ammunitions. At least twenty of them are women and fifteen were minors. Violence perpetrated by the state results gross violation of Human Rights and no-way it has been helping to curb “so called extremist activists” Biswapriya Kanungo. Since last two years, family members of the victims are moving and knocking the doors of various important persons of the state administrations to get justice.
In this context, rights activists along with the deprived families have gathered in front of State Legislative Assembly with the demands as Judiciary inquiry by a seating Judge of Odisha High Court, Lodge FIR under section IPC 302 against the murderer police, Stop police atrocities against the common villagers in the name of combing operation, Sanction compensation of Rs.10 lakhs for each deceased family to His Excellency Governor of Odisha.
