Statement of the ILPS
The
International League of Peoples’ Struggle strongly condemns the violent
kidnapping of comrade Booker Ngesa Omole, Secretary General of the
Communist Party Marxist Kenya. His abduction at the hands of the fascist
US-backed Ruto regime is a blatant act to stamp out and still the
organizing of the Kenyan working class and all toiling people who have
been fighting for their livelihoods and sovereignty for years.
Comrade
Omole was kidnapped by the Kenya Police Service, tortured, and brutally
beaten to near death, having his tooth broken and finger cut with a pen
knife. He was then taken to the Mlolongo Police Station, a station
infamous for extrajudicial killings and systematic terror against the
poor masses and political activists.
This act of
blatant and naked fascism comes just two years after the Kenyan people
led a successful march on the Kenyan Parliament to block the against the
Ruto regime’s Finance Bill that would have privatized industries and
other state assets and opened up the country to massive foreign
investment and IMF loans. This bill sought crippling austerity that
would drown the masses in further misery while filling the pockets of
imperialist investors and the fascist comprador rulers of Kenya. They
also sought to impose massive taxes for services that the people do not
even receive. During this brave action of the Kenyan people, dozens were
killed or disappeared while hundreds were injured and arrested, mostly
youth. Despite this state terror, the people have never ceased their
organizing against the regime.
On May 11 and 12 of this
year, the regime is hosting a Franco-African summit to reposition
French imperialist interests in the continent with support from US
imperialism, after being kicked out of the Sahel states, The kidnapping
of Comrade Omole just months before this imperialist summit is clearly
an attempt to silence anti-imperialist opposition.
The
organizing led by the Communist Party Marxist Kenya and other
anti-imperialist and progressive organizations to guide the whole Kenyan
people, from the cities to the countryside, to reject the Finance Bill
and to fight for their land, rights, and sovereignty has terrified the
US-backed Ruto regime to its core. The abduction and violent attack on
Comrade Omole is evidence of the strength of the Kenyan people’s
revolutionary movement and the fear of the regime to loose its power to
oppress and exploit the masses.
The ILPS stands with
Comrade Booker Ngesa Omole and calls on its members around the world to
condemn his arrest and stand in solidarity with the working class and
all toiling masses of Kenya as they fight US-backed fascism and state
terror. The League joins the Communist Party Marxist Kenya’s call for
the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Omole and full public
accountability for every officer responsible. As the Party boldly
proclaimed in their statement:
“We call upon workers,
peasants, youth, women, trade unions, student movements, human rights
organisations, and all anti imperialist and democratic forces to rise in
solidarity. Organise. Speak out. Mobilise. Defend our comrades. Defend
democratic rights. Defend the revolution.
No prison can contain the will of the people. No baton can beat down the truth. No regime can stop the march of history.
The struggle continues. The people shall win.”
Signed,
International League of Peoples’ Struggle
