Nepal - A funeral procession is taken out on Saturday for the five people who died during violent clashes in Birgunj. Bhusan Yadav

Sep 6, 2015- Local people felt some respite as banda enforcers “eased” their protest in Biratnagar on Saturday for Krishnajanmashtami, a Hindu festival, and historic Radha-Krishna chariot procession.
Motorcycles, auto rickshaws and some private vehicles were seen plying on the road. Local people thronged markets to buy essentials after 21 days.

Raj Kumar Yadav, district chairman of Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum Nepal, said the banda continued but they let people ride motorcycles keeping in view of the festivals.

Meanwhile, banda enforcers staged demonstrations at various places in Janakpur on Saturday. Maithili Brahman Samaj performed a puja as a symbolic protest against leaders of the major parties.

In Malangawa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, an unidentified group torched some government offices, vehicles and shops on Friday night. They torched a jeep at District Veterinary Office and a motorcycle parked at Family Planning Association. The group also torched some shops in the area, police said.

In Kohalpur, Banke, scores of locals staged demonstrations against the murder of 22-year-old Karan Singh of Naubasta VDC-2. They demanded legal action against the culprits. Police said Samyukta Madheshi Morcha supporters attacked Singh with stones for riding motorcycle during strike on Friday. Singh, who sustained serious injuries in his chest, breathed his last while being taken to Kohalpur Hospital. Morcha said their supporters were not involved in the incident. Superintendent of Police Basanta Panta said of the 31 persons held for investigation, 17 were released and 14 are taken into custody. Similarly, Tharu women protested in front of Area Police Office in Mainapokhar, Bardiya, demanding that the arrestees be released.

Victims of Birgunj clash cremated
Five people, who succumbed to bullet injuries, were cremated en masse in Birgunj on Saturday. Thousands of people attended the funeral procession that started from Narayani Sub-regional Hospital and moved around the town reaching the Tilabe river at Bindabasini. Local administration lifted curfew from 9am to 2pm for the funeral procession.

NC activists join protests
Nepali Congress (NC) cadres have joined the protest against the proposed seven-state federal model in Saptari. A number of NC activists, including general convention representative Muralidhar Khirhari Yadav and trade union leader Umesh Mishra, participated in the protest programme.
