Maoism becoming active in Kerala: Police report
Palakkad: The Maoist activities are finding pace in Kerala after a
brief lull, according to a police report. The police are keeping a close
watch on the organisers of a ‘People’s resistance convention’ to be
held on October 26 in Thrissur. The convention will be held at Sahitya
Akademi Hall. As part of the campaign for the programme, posters have
been put up across the town. The convention calls for an end to
militarisation of government agencies and hunt for Maoists.
The special branch police has started collecting information about
the organisers of the event. The police suspect that Maoist sympathisers
are in a bid to form units in Wayanad and Palakkad districts ahead of
local body polls. Meanwhile, the police got Maoist leader Roopesh in
custody and brought him to Agali in order to collect evidence of the
attacks in the Attappady region. The police will produce him before
Palakkad district court at 12 noon on Monday. Roopesh was brought to
Attappady for the first time after he was arrested from Coimbatore a few
months ago. The daughters of Roopesh and Shyna had come to the court to
meet him.
