India - fake encounter - smashed from The Human Rights Forum (HRF)
Death of Maoist functionary Nagesh a case of cold blooded killing by police: HRF
ton Friday alleged that the death of Maoist functionary Nagesh was not a case of exchange of fire, but one of cold blooded killing by the police. A six-member fact-finding team from the HRF, headed by its general secretary V.S. Krishna, visited Mallampeta in Chintoor mandal of Andhra Pradesh and Pusugudem village in Konta block of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh. The team alleged that Nagesh was shot dead by three special party police personnel in plain clothes about 200 metres from Pusugudem at about noon on December 28.
“The police later moved the body across the boarder into Andhra Pradesh, dumped it near a tank on the outskirts of Mallampeta and termed it as an encounter,” alleged Mr. Krishna. The HRF demanded that the policemen responsible for the incident be prosecuted as per law. It alleged that though the police had every chance to arrest Nagesh, who was unarmed, they opted to shoot him down. HRF secretary Sheik Khadar Babu and executive committee members — K. Sudha and Y. Rajesh were among the members of the team.
