Maoist leader arrested in Chatra
Hazaribag: Uday Ganjhu alias Raghu Ganjhu, 50, a sub-zonal commander of CPI Maoists who was carrying a reward of Rs3lakh on his head, was arrested on Thursday night from the Seronia forest on the border of the Keredari and Tandwa police station of Chatra district. SP Hazaribag Akhilesh Kumar Jha, said that Ganjhu was responsible for killing more than 100 people in Hazaribag and Chatra districts since 1993. He was involved in more than 50 cases of massacre in the two districts and has been on the run for the last 23 years.
He said police have procured 16 permanent warrants of arrest from the court. Jha termed Ganjhu’s arrest as a prize catch for the police. The SP said, “We received information that he was hiding atSheroria jungle in Keredari for the last few days and started search operation against him and succeeded in locating him in the Sheroria forest.” Although police have seized huge quantity of Naxal literature from his possession, they have not found any arms. Ganjhu hails from Mansoria village in Manatu in Keredari known for presence of Maoists.

43 Maoists killed, 615 arrested in Chhattisgarh in 2015
The year passing by proved to be an intensive one for Chhattisgarhs Naxalism-affected Bastar region as it saw 43 Maoists, including several top leaders, being killed in encounters. A total of 615 ultras were arrested from seven districts in the region during the period. Besides, 318 rebels decided to shun the path of violence and surrendered before police, according to statistics released by the Bastar police. The statistics revealed that 162 encounters took place between police and Naxals from January 1 to December 31, 2015.

Of them, 55 encounters took place in Kanker, 37 in Sukma, 13 in Narayanpur and eight in Dantewara. Forty-three Naxals were slain in these encounters. Besides, police succeeded in demolishing several Naxal camps. Furthermore, police achieved commendable success in search campaigns, seizing 262 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 289 detonators, 118 other weapons, 700 cartridges and 20 sacks (of 50 kg each) ammonium nitrate. A major success came through in months of October and November when a cache of explosives meant for supply to the ultras was seized.
Anti-Naxal op: Five Naxals killed, arms recovered in Bihar
Five Naxals have been killed in an encounter with the elite commando unit of the CRPF after a fierce gunbattle in the jungles of Aurangabad district of the state. Officials said the encounter began late evening in the Dibhara area of the left-wing extremism hit district after which five bodies of the Maoists, an AK series assault rifle, one carbine, a country-made gun and some other ammunition have been recovered from the spot. “As darkness has set in the jungle area, the troops are taking time to sanitise the area and provide furher details of the encounter.
The CoBRA team was out for operation based on some inputs about the movement of armed Maoist cadres in the area,” they said. They said the operation was conducted by the troops of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) unit of the CRPF which has been raised by the force exclsuively for jungle warfare operations. A commando of the 205th battalion of the CoBRA has been injured in the encounter, they said, adding the forces are still combing the area for further recoveries. The CoBRA and other regular Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) units are deployed in these areas of Bihar for undertaking anti-Naxal operations.
